Hello,

I have joined this forum 6 months ago. I do accept that I was newbish, and most likely, I still am in many fields of IM. I have a lot of development skill. Probably that is my best virtue in field of IM. So, I will milk that skill as much as I can.


Goal:
Learning new things. I find humiliating how people set goals to $100/day and similar. I can't imagine putting my goals in such limits. Also, it's difficult for me to find motivation in money. Sure, it's great thing, but it doesn't pushes me enough.

I was always jumping from project to project and I still am. But, in that way, I can get broad knowledge in many fields before I focus on only one.
So, I'll try to learn about all possible traffic sources I haven't tried yet (PPC, PTC, PPV, solo ads, ad swaps, BH, etc.) and all monetization types. Ultimate goal is finding best possible cost per sale.

One other goal is that I don't forget about doing other things, like developing of free astronomy software or making variable stars CCD observations (I LOVE astronomy ). So, sometimes there would be frequent updates, sometimes not.


Way:
I will categorize traffic in two groups: low quality and high quality. High quality traffic is traffic that is targeted and already interested in specific niche. Low quality is not targeted, but mostly very cheap. I will send low quality traffic to squeeze pages and high quality traffic directly to offers.

I believe that information should be free, especially on internet. BHW is in some way proof of that. Unfortunately, in today's time information has been privatized and some of it can't be found other way then paying for it. So, for example, I will never sell stupid IM e-books. Instead, I can deliver free information over e-mail, with real ways to earn, and simply put my affiliate links. However, I will sometimes sell e-books when appropriate. It's perfectly fine with me selling e-book that actually has benefit for reader and can't be found other way. For example, I could sell e-book "Seeding flowers in your garden without chemicals", but not "Earn millions over night using this extramegasuperfake system".


Why journal:
As I already said, information should be free. So, why not share my experience while going through this road? I won't loose anything, only others can gain.

Also, it could give me a little bit more push forward and nice way to clear my thoughts.


First steps:
First I want to test with cheap traffic (PPC, PPV, traffic redirected from other sites, etc.). So, first step is making squeeze page. I will give free e-book in exchange for all possible data.

I also want to keep statistics of everything. I would like to use as less as possible of third party tools. But, sometimes, there is no need to reinvent the weel. Actual data about visitors I'll track with clicky in combination with my own code.


Currently done:
I have functional squeeze page that records a lot of data. I have functional stats page. I have functional traffic source tracking.

Squeeze page is ugly (I'll let somebody do it, I suck at that part). Stats page needs improvements and integration with clicky. I need to add integration with e-mail marketing software.

Here is more detailed info about what currently is done:

• squeeze page is offering free e-book in exchange of name, e-mail and lots of other info (other info is not required)
  • PHP + MySQL as backend, Javascript (+Ajax) for frontend
  • information gathering is sectioned on three pages
    • page one - mail and name
    • page two - location, interest and other info
    • page three - other info
  • while some fields on page two and three are marked as required to force user to fill them, actually it's enough to input only name and email on page one (I save that info automatically, before user completes whole form)
  • source from where user came is tracked
• stats page displays all gathered info
  • PHP+MySQL as backend, Javascript (JQuery + JQplot for plotting charts) for frontend
  • all info gathered can be displayed (for example, what location is of visitors) using pie and bar charts
  • displayed info can be filtered depending on source of traffic
    • this is important part because it displays efficiency of traffic source and allows sending targeted offers later
    • need to add calculation of cost per lead

Small update:

Now squeeze page can be optimized for each traffic campaign. For example, if sending traffic in health niche, I don't want to offer them IM book for free. Also, each traffic campaign will create different mail lists, allowing to optimize e-mails.

Next step is adding c-panel for myself and future partners which will allow creating new campaigns and optimizing them.

- How many niches are you targeting? You said you were giving away free ebooks in return of their info. Do you have a free book for each of the niches?

- Have you designed the landing pages yourself or had someone made them for you? If the latter one is true, could you direct me toward that person/service?

- In the second page (location, interest and other info), are you differentiating the interests based on a set of selected offers you have?

- What's your daily budget for paid traffic? Are you targeting other free traffic sources?

I still don't know how many niches I am targeting. I am still at step one and step one is creating lander and collecting demographics about visitors. Depending on that info, I will later select niches.
Some cheap traffic sources do allow somewhat targeting of visitors. I'll be selecting new e-books for each traffic campaign.

I still don't have landing pages designed. I'll get designer when it will be needed. Hit me up if you want him to design something.

If I got you right, you are asking if I'll be sending offers depending on demographics of leads? Yes, I will be using almost all info I am collecting.

I didn't defined budget for anything. First I'll test at small scale. When I manage to find low cost per lead and high conversion rate, it's just matter of time to scale up. That is main idea. System that allows pouring in money (to get traffic) and traffic produces more money.

Small update:

Changed stats page a bit. Now it will show cost for each traffic campaign. Need to add calculation of cost per lead and success rate (how many uniques inputted all information).

I have decided to go with Aweber and their API. Maybe in future I'll need to create more customized solution, but so far it should meet all my needs.

I also have created my first deadline: beta version of system and first traffic testing should be online till 1st of next month.

Another small update:

Integrated Aweber API (only basic things). I still need to work on that, of course.

I will delay building control panel for next month. Currently, I'll have to create new campaigns directly from MySQL.

This and next week I will create basic e-mail series. After that, system is going online for testing of system itself.

I've realized something today. I hate writing emails, sales pages and similar tasks. Best would be to hire somebody to do it, but I want to keep testing phase without any unnecessarily costs.

If I ever start to have ventures with other people, most likely I will first find somebody that is good at monetization.
