Hurricane Sandy - Please read ASAP- 65 Deaths

There is a good chance we will lose power for a few days or even up to a week here in NY due to Hurricane Sandy which will be hitting us Monday. Hurricane Sandy as already taken 65 Lives In the Caribbean. You are in our Prayers. Everyone on the East Coast and all people who will be hit by this storm God Bless and good luck.

I just found out my family is in the evacuation zone. I am about 1 block away from it as well. We could all use some prayers right now. I will do my best to keep people updated if anyone has any interest.

I just took a look outside and the wind is really picking up. I am on the 25th floor so its very strong. This does not look good.

My whole family lives in NY and I just moved south recently so I'm glad I escaped this hurricane for now. Hopefully the media's just hyping everything up. I know several of my fellow NYers are taking early vacations to Los Angeles due to this lol.

I hope so as well but I went through Hurricane Irene not to long ago and it was so much flooding and damage. This is supposed to be worse and its supposed to last a lot longer. Part of NY is already being evacuated. 7pm is the deadline.

It's a lot more dangerous than everyone thinks because it's a hybrid "Frankenstorm"
the cold air from the North will mix with the warm air from the hurricane and it will be a colossal super-storm.

I think in this case it all depends on timing. As Hurricanes go, it is nothing spectacular, even for you in the NE. But that hurricane is full of tropical moisture that is almost never existent in the NE this time of year. The Canadian front is going to slam into the tropical air mass, and massive amounts pf rainfall can occur. In Houston during TS Alica, we got 30 inches of rain in three days, and 23 of that in one night, it flooded almost all of Houston over 65,000 homes, ( I had 5 feet in the living room) and it was (only) a tropical system that got nailed by a cool front. Sandy is getting nailed by a frigid air mass, condensation will occur.

Depending on the timing of the arrival times of these two systems, someone is going to get really, really wet. Adding to the problem is a system of weather coming from the west that is going to slam into the whole mess before it s over. You won't believe how much water a tropical system can have in it. It is usually dispersed across an entire region. This storm is going to distribute it very quickly, over a relatively small area..

I usually scoff at anything below a Category 4 hurricane, being from the gulf cost. A Category 1 won't even shut down a McDonalds, and actually causes people to throw a hurricane party..

But this s a different animal, it may be much ado about nothing or the biggest mess we have seen in a half a century, it is simply a matter of the timing. Depending on how these things hit, this could get very bad, very quickly.

I've prepared but don't expect it to be bad here (Virginia). I've said a few times that it sometimes seems like Home Depot called up the NOAA and said, "You know... we haven't sold enough gernerators and the grocery stores have lots of water on their shelves... How about hyping up the next storm so we all can sell out? THANKS!"

For stuff like this, I always hope for the best, but prepare for the worst - and if it doesn't hit, no problem, we'll use the canned food as a part of our regular meals...
