Marry james,

From what I understand you have done some SEO and your client's website is now ranking on the first page in Google places and an organic link on the second page of results?

In answer to your question if you are done, it would really depend on what it was you promised your client. If this was what the agreement was (getting him to show up on an SERP), then yes I would say you have fulfilled your end of the bargain. However without more specifics of what your agreement was then I can't say for sure.

In general, SEO is an ongoing practice and you are never really done. Of course SEO professionals will outline a time period for which they promise their clients that they can deliver some measure of exposure in SERP's for a predetermined price however you shouldn't say that they will be finished after that. There will always be competition, aging content and other factors that cause rankings to stagnate and need revitalization.

For example check out this thread on SEOMoz about a two year SEO timeline. It is not uncommon for services agreements in regards to SEO to take on this kind of project lifetime,

Hope that helps you,
