Anyone Living In Phuket?

Ive been there...didnt like the vibe so much...i mean it is ok to visit..but i doubt i could live there. Phi Phi is different story, would love to move there..but im pretty much sure it is impossible

So what would be the right place to go in TH (for about a month) with a girlfriend? I am not interested in loud/crowded places since I am planning to continue my IM projects there. Thanks.

Simas9,

I spent about a month in Koh Samui last February. Decent sized island with much to do and see and not too crowded. You can rent some nice villas near the beach for around $300-500/mo (the longer you commit for, the cheaper the price will be). Definitely quiet enough to focus on IM work while having fun on the side. Also, the Internet works quite well there. There are some nearby islands you can reach by boat for a nice weekend away (and some great snorkeling/diving as well).

Good luck,
GG

What goldengloves said or Phuket, and live in the Rawaii area. Koh Samui sounds very similar to Phuket. I think Phuket is 450km squared so there is alot to explore. Rawaii is a real laid back reggae area so you will be able to concentrate there.

One thing about Thailand you need to know is everywhere can be nice and everywhere can be awful. For example Bangkok is very cool, many things to see, great shopping, cheap taxies and there is some really nice beaches outside of it. But BKK can be shithole if you go to tourist rat holes like Khao San Road, or sit in rush hour traffic.

In Phuket, Patong is a dump, but Surin is very nice! Every place you will ever read about it, or talk to anyone about will have mix reviews. You need to be open minded when coming here also. Many tourists blow through here, treat the locals like shit, and go home saying the Thais are awful... but in reality its them having no respect for the people. The effort you put in with people, will pay you back 10 x fold.

Regarding Phi Phi you can live there! There's 116 hotels as far as I know (go look on Agoda). Maya bay is a national park so you can't live there, but you can camp the night there though :)

Agree, a lot of people that go to phuket only really see patong, I love rawai, but to me is like a bigger version of samui. Phuket can be busy in parts and laid back in other parts, that's what I love about it.

Yeah Patong + Rawaii are just worlds apart.

Patong is also more expensive with all the ozzies spending their money there.
Even Mc Donalds is more expensive lol.

It would be great to have a BHW meet up in Thailand some day, would be good to get to know all you guys + girls.

I've read and heard from colleagues about Phuket enough so I won't step there, but if you're ever visiting Pattaya, then hit me up - we can have few beers in some not-so-crowded place and skip the go-go's altogether I'm planning to stay about 6 more months here.

I would love to know someone there so I can get one of those t-shirts that says "My Friend went to Phucket and all I got was this stupid shirt!"

If you are the avatar one, I'd more than happy to visit you asap. JK btw Probably i will be in pataya this year for new year celebration, I may pay visit to you.

If going by the avatar you'll be slightly disappointed ;)

Shit website, but its Paris Hilton hosting a concert on Surin beach..
Basement Jaxx, LMFAO and some DJ which I can't remember the name of.
3D hologram and a laser show, be a good laugh... 2,000baht a ticket

Maybe we could get a meet going in BKK some time! It's a very central point.
If it ever comes about PM me so I don't miss the thread :D

And given the stuff about Pattaya is mostly true, I believe same goes for Phuket ;)

It's my dream to retire to Pattaya,
Currently I make about $2000 USD a month
from my Internet Marketing, is that enough ?

Depends what you require? I did some calculations with a friend of mine before (drunk, I admit), that one could get a fully furnished small condo (what are they, 25-30 square meter?) with a/c, be able to run the said a/c every night, some nightouts and their daily (local) food for just 500 EUR (19,9k THB). Yes, it's a stretch and you're just making it, so with $2k (61k THB) it wouldn't be any issue to get a nice house and otherwise live like a foreigner.

At least here in Pattaya, I guess it's bit more expensive in BKK.

I want that shirt! Lol. My friend brought me back a shirt that said YO!
