Does Google ever ignore NOFOLLOW

Do you think that bots ALL ignore nofollow?

I was wondering b/c I have been posting on nofollow blogs b/c I figure that there is no harm obviously getting real human visitors.......

But the link juice IS appreciated....but so are humans - anyways - what do you guys think?

I have definitely read studies that show explicitly that the Google bot often follows a nofollow link, and subsequently indexes the page the link is pointing to. I never really bought into the nofollow thing, considering a couple years ago you could rank a site with exclusively wordpress blog comments which are by default nofollow.

I ran a number of test on this about a year ago so this data is not current however I built hundreds of PR4+ no follow links and it helped the rankings in BING however no movement in Google. Google probably counts the no follow links on some social media sites, but overall the only use I see for them is movement in BING and for indexing important pages quickly.

Google doesn't ignore the no follow links but they are not stupid. they know when a link can still count.

For example I had a new site, 100% white hat with no link building done what so ever. because of its location and niche it received a wikipedia link which was no follow. because of this 1 link it received a PR2 status on the next PR updates shortly after.

yeah, Google will still index a landing page it found with a nofollow link. nofollow is misleading in that it doesn't tell the bots not to follow the link, its more a question of keeping link juice from spreading. and even then only Google pays any mind to the nofollow tag. all the other engines ignore it, and Google does scrape data from the other engines so the end result is that the higher page rankings you would get from nofollow links on the other search engines makes it so that a small amount of link juice still manages to trickle out in Google. Whatever you do just don't overdo it with the blog comments and stuff like that because while nofollow links do help, too many from any one site can cause those links to go negative.

I have seen (and purchased) domains that have PR but only have nofollow links so I think it is more of a suggestion rather than a rule for the algo. These days, it probably looks very unnatural to not have any or very few nofollow links so I would not focus too much on only getting "followed" or clean links.

No follow passes domain authority instead of page rank. As your authority increases your PR will also.

You are mixing nofollow with indexing and both work differently. To block bots from indexing your page the "NOINDEX" meta tag must be added to the page itself not pages pointing to it.

The "NOFOLLOW" is used on the <a tag by someone to prevent adding page rank juice to pages he is linking to. For example Page A is linking to Page B so PR from page A is leaked to page B and if the owner of Page A wants to stop this he will put the nofollow tag on page A.

To answer the original question - You can get quite a bit of real traffic by commenting on nofollow blogs that have a lot of real readers. Eventually some of those readers might link to you. You can speed up the process by reaching out to other commenters, since a lot of them will link back to their own sites from within the comments. Not the fastest traffic or linkbuilding strategy in the world, but it does work.

Some search engines count all links no matter what. Also, having a mixture of do-follow and nofollow links is always good practice; so everything looks natural and you are getting it sounds like a healthy amount of visitors to boot.

Whether they ignore it or not NoFollow is good to have in the mix to help make your linking profile look natural
