Google misses earning expectations! Rejoice!

What's a little bit of insider trading to a Company with a reach like Goog?

On a more sombre note if this is proven the CEO is toast......

Your right, the only thing that could happen is a fine...

Do you remember when google had to pay the justice department in a settlement when google had illegally been caught promoting overseas pharmacies? I think google ended up settling for around 900 million....

You have to wonder how much of the mobile market Apple is going to take now that they have their own map program. The old map program allowed Google to show sponsored results when you typed in a search. Google out, Apple in.

Not bad for a company whose motto is "do no evil" lol, the big brother's taking a hit... Also the French Govt is not the only one at war with them, also FTC expressed several concerns about google, but guess who stepped in: http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2012/10/congressman-warns-ftc-leave-google-alone

Congressman Jared Polis (Colorado) is a prime example of why these misfits in Washington D.C. need to get tossed out of office. Congressman Polis is biased and should resign from office over his letter to the FTC. Congressman Polis founded bluemountainarts.com which was sold to Excite for $780 million and ProFlowers.com which sold in 2006. Read more about this big corporate loving douchebag on Wikipedia. And if anyone lives in Colorado, please remember Congressman Polis when it comes time to vote. Congressman Polis is Google's bitch.

Of course when the G shat on a lot of the smaller sites the brands got promoted up the organic............

Clearly some of them have noticed and cut back their PPC spends accordingly.... I would expect that trend to continue as after all all Businesses are looking to save what they can when they can in these troubled times........

Google reap what you sow.....

Loved the buzzfeed piece: http://www.buzzfeed.com/jwherrman/why-google-could-be-in-serious-trouble where you can see the FORBIDDEN word MONOPOLIST mentioned... And this might be the key concept of the whole article as far as we should be concerned (as marketers): "Google makes virtually all of its money from contextual advertising in its own products, such as search and Gmail, and through partners that use its ad product, AdWords. That entire business model is based on the value of user clicks. (I click an ad in Gmail, Google gets a penny. I click on ad on a website that uses Adwords, the site owner and Google each get a half a penny. Repeat billions of times.) The value of those clicks is going down, and there's no reason to believe it will go back up: this type of unintelligently targeted advertising is not popular on social networks, which are luring away advertisers, and AdWords specifically has no place on social networks that Google doesn't own."

This really made my day, after reading all of these comments I can't wait to see google crumbling to dust in a few years

matt cutts fault filled the serp with fookin youtube spam and domain crowding crap

Great news my fellow BHW friends! Long may this impressive decline continue! Blessed shall be the day that Google is another myspace and matt cunts is a hobo with his only possessions those two gay cuddly toys featured on his blog. 20% down = good days work BHers

Part of the problem with Google is that they've gotten so nazi about their algorithm that it's preventing them from being able to provide good results. Because of Google's fast climb to the top of the search world, and because of their total dominance over the past few years, there has been a lot of people who have done a LOT of stuff to manipulate Googles search engine results pages (serps). Obviously this manipulating of their results isn't good for Google, so every time someone figured out how to get to the top of google by changing something on their site, Google had to change something else to keep that person from being able to get to the top. This has been going on for a few years now.
Personally, I think this has caused google to go too far. I think they have changed sooo many things in their algorithm that they're preventing themselves from displaying good results. They're so concerned with not allowing SEOers to dominate their serps that they can't display ANYTHING correctly. I've seen so many bad results over the past few months that I changed my default search to be Yahoo instead of Google.

^^^ this.

My anti/alternative google site is done Sunday. Im looking for writers and contributors anyone intrested pm me. What perfect time for this site :)

Google does not create the published work of the documents that appear in its search results. All Google does is scrape pages and display it for users. Let Google pay every webmaster royalties!

Even if they pay the webmasters, there'll be lot of losers who whine about everything..

One smart move for apple would be to build their own SE. They have the funds, they have the intelligence resources and that would definitely fry google...especially since safari users would be connected/forced to get used to it by default.

Why is everyone so happy? I'm a little new to this BTW... Is it because the other search engines aren't as advanced?

Simple. These little children want their lives to be easy. They think Google should give them free rein to game the system. They think that Google should allow them to spam their way to the top. They believe that there should be no consequences to breaking Google's rules.

Most of the guys here do not understand how to make money online. They delude themselves into thinking that everybody can build a self sustaining business by taking rule-breaking SEO shortcuts. While these shortcuts may work for a while, they rarely work in the long run.

People who make money through SEO can be split into three categories. This is a bit of a generalization but stick with me here.

  1. Those who build spammy sites and cheat their way to the top of SERPs. This works and can generate a lot of money but the sites usually have a limited lifespan.
  2. Those who build authority sites without any direct spam. This works but it takes much more time. Authority sites usually have a much longer life span provided they are properly maintained.
  3. Those who who sell SEO services/tools.

There are exceptions, aren't there always? However, the majority of people making money through SEO fall in to one of the categories above.

Most of the people rejoicing in this news belong to category one. They are happy because they hate Google. They hate Google because they are deluded. You see, they want all of the benefits of category one but none of the drawbacks. They want to spam their way to the top but they do not want to be penalised. Essentially they want the benefits of being in both categories one and two. They want to create spammy sites with the lifespan of authority sites.

People in category two, like me, kind of like Google. We may be against some of their policies, we may think they lie, we may hate their plan for world domination...... but we kind of like them. We like them because Google usually awards us for creating quality sites. Sure, some of us do get hit from time to time. However, we usually recover quick as we have quality sites.

People in category three LOVE Google. They love Google because they get to sell thousands of dollars worth of services to people in categories one and two. Category three loves Google even more when it penalises people in category one. This is because category three usually receive a rush of sales from category one trying to revive their penalised site.

There are smart people in category one. These are not the people who get a hard-on when Google misses it's earnings target though. The smart people realise they are breaking the rules, so when Google slaps them they keep their heads up and get on with business. They move on to the next Blackhat method for making a quick buck. These guys are the successful ones and you will find a fair few of them on this forum. If you want to be in category one, these are the guys you should pay attention to.

So as a general rule, dismiss most of what these Google haters say. They want the world but none of it's problems.

You must really love google to write that much about this!...didn't really think this thread would create such positive and negative reactions...i don't like google b/c they have a monopoly on search...

So, I love Google because I explain to a newbie the dynamics of the SEO community? Your logic amazes me.

You don't like Google because they have a monopoly on search? If you had the chance to have a monopoly on anything you would jump on it. Saying you do not like Google because they have a monopoly is akin to saying you don't like Google because they are successful.

Furthermore, you do not know what earnings expectations are. If you did, you would know how insignificant earnings expectations are in gauging a companies success. Perhaps, you should go read up on the economy and on how public companies operate. Maybe then you can stop clogging up the forum with these rubbish threads. Even for Google haters this should not be news. The numbers have no significance at all.

Whats all this hate for google for? Without them most of us would be considered lazy slobs, instead we are lazy slobs that make money.
