so we all know that facebook will go after anyone that attempts to manipulate "likes"
then how come google doesnt go after all these seo companies that attempt to manipulate search rankings? wouldnt that be more effective than trying to come up with panda or penguin BS?

It's not the same thing at all. When it comes to Facebook-likes the "spammers" are doing stuff on Facebooks own site.
The SEO-guys does not do anything on Googles website if you know what I mean.

straight and simple answer folks

Maybe google can't go after the seo companies yet, but i am sure they are not happy with them.

They do in effect...

They go after the methods; thereby bringing everyone under the same reach.

It also wouldn't be good PR for them to directly attack individual businesses - especially small ones. Going after the methods and techniques is the perfect back-door route for them; and something their spin-doctors can 'explain' via their TOS.

Why would they? Not all SEO companies do black hat spam techniques. If you actually think about it, Google loves SEO's. We do their job for them by creating quality content for users ( most of the time :amish: ) and help make websites relevant to search terms.

Not to mention most SEO companies offer Adwords advertising and Adwords certifications, which = $$$ in their pockets.

Because SEO companies aren't necessarily doing anything wrong per Google's T&Cs. If they were to go after SEO companies just for making sites attractive to spiders, they'd lose money themselves. If SEO companies are blatantly using BH techniques then they will definitely be at risk of having action taken against them, but there's nothing "illegal" about SEO per se. SEO is only "manipulative" in the same sense as any other kind of marketing is.

Spot on here MeetTheVirus!

I've been running an SEO company for a few years now and love to watch some of my competitors just eat 10th page dust when their automated linkbuilding methods finally catch up to them.

I may frequent this site but I would never touch any method that automated any linkbuilding (other processes sure but not linkbuilding). No fiverr gigs, no blog networks, no XRumer/Scrapebox, just me or my employees emailing or calling other sites.

On top of that I spend WAY too much time getting all assy at my writers about the quality of their content. I don't want my clients publishing all the SEO fluff you see filling most SERPs - I want content I would actually read and enjoy which as been working excellent for us so far.

Theseodude,

Although it may be easy to say that SEO companies (even the most "whitehat" ones) are gaming the system, they are actually providing a valuable service to Google. Google's mission is to organize the internet's information so that they can easily deliver relevant content when someone asks for it. Content must be structured in a way that makes it easy for Google to do this. SEO companies help website owners do this. Granted there are some borderline cases of manipulation but in general if an SEO company aims to stay in business and provide quality service, they are also helping Google deliver relevant and quality results at the same time. I would think that Google going after SEO's (good ones) would do much more to hurt their business than to help it.

Further, why would Google provide tools like webmaster tools, link disavow, analytics and others if they didn't want people optimizing their websites for search?

We do nothing to hinder the reputation of Google ..
Where as FB likes may be sonsidered SPAM..
More over Google can survive on if there are companies who fight for places in searches .. Ignite fire among them with updates ..

Some companies that directly manipulated have been penalized .. but with few SEO companies they are not againts Google TOS so there is no problem with them.. I forgot the name of the company where Google killed the company by going legally.. It's around this year june-july.. but there is a case. If you guys would like to know tell me I will do a thorough reearch regarding that.

No SEO companies are exempt from google updates, you do the wrong shit, you get your ass thrown out. Just that most seo companies know how to game google properly. And fact, big seo company does use all the link building software we all use here, they just use it the right way and stay under the radar.

You can be penalized or even banned if Google were to know you were doing black hat practices like buying and selling links..You can report websites through Webmaster Tools if i'm not mistaken.
