Me and a programmer friend of mine have considered taking the time to develop a site with a interface similar to y auction but with a few tweaks.
It works on a flat listing of ? and I got a few friends who work at g who could possibly join forces and promote checkout on our site.
It would be the e to g checkout but not be anything like e at all.
This would be the same concept in the online product trading but be ? even if your selling a 100000usd item. Im no ace at programming and have very limited skills but, I could put together a legal binding contract for a group of people interested, Have high level marketing contacts and capabilities for pennies, and know some people in very very very high places. With a decent business plan, presentation, and contract there is the possibility to get tons of cash investment and with a site like this there is billions to be made so im sure plenty of money for everyone, even if 100 people are involved 1% of a billion is a ton I know it seems like a long shot but with a few good programmers, and the contacts I got, and the demand for a better trading site, it looks like a winning combo. If your interested pm me, Looking to find some high skill programmers and html editors that have a knack for marketing psychology EXG: buying colors attractive design and other things beyond just being able to make a professional looking site.

There is already an 'alternative' site to ebay called ebid, the problem with it is that while it is a brilliant concept the truth is that the majority of people will always go to ebay just like the majority of people will always go to google.

You may be able to build a site thats better for the sellers and get them on board but without the traffic from buyers it would be pointless which is what happened to ebid.

no negativity intended but cmon that site is well just compare its homepage to ebays homepage nough said
another smart thing to do is instead of a name like ebid that sounds like your tryin to knock of ebay you might
want to choose something original and heavily advertise it i mean look at google who the hell made google work
that doesnt even sound like anything the word google you could come up with a retarded domain name and
it would work with the right platform, psychological aesthetics, and a heavily marketed big budget marketing campaign

I'm a member of ebid (made the transition when I was a ebay seller), and although the listing fees are low, the exposure in the search engines is very poor! I mean, all I ever see is ebay listings on page 1.

I would think carefully if you're looking to model a site on ebay, you don't wanna be a busy fool.

Yeah been a busy fool a few times to say the least,
I would never model anything off ebay, The only thing to keep in common is trading
I would ideally like to do what facebook did to myspace but in the trading world

the problem with ebay is the high fees (which is bed for both the buyers and sellers) and the fact that they 99% of the time take the buyer side which makes many people avoid selling there..

Did you even think of a protection program? cause without it you don't stand a chance.. to be honest this type of sites needs to be open by big companies with big budgets that can seriously compete with ebay.. you just have an idea that many had before (I was talking about it with friends).. just google ebay alternatives..

Your exactly right in 1998 I was in high school and had the idea of an mp3 cam mobile phone, think I had the budget? its not the ideas but the capital behind them
Fortunately I know a few people at some big companies and others with a lot of money looking to invest into the next big thing. How do you sale them on it?

Business presentations and the right marketing campaign. You have to create a trend, you have to be such a good marketer that you can sell sht on a stick and

make it popular and in demand, after that everything falls into place.; Like I said I could put together a contract and a presentation based on need and demand

and what is and is not currently offered but and there is a but potential investors want to see that golden homepage layout here is a hint it must involve

green, just take for example many other companies it should be multi colored, and it should not look or sound like a knock off but be truly

unique and heavily marketed im unfolding what will happen guarantee if its not me or us its the next guy its not rocket science

There are a bunch of ebay alternative out there but all of them failed cause no buyer traffic. The only can be competition with ebay is google if google want to do it. Million ppls will jump in if google have auction site

Not only google but the right people with deep pockets with the right marketing and advertising Think outside the box

you cant compare you'r new site with ebay as you cant compare anything with google and FB

cmon guys couldn't get r done? whats the story behind that? money I hate to say it but I see through the smoke and bs

sumones gonna do it real quick like im betting its another young gun like mark but hes not goin to be wearing a hoody

maybe hes gonna be sporting a mohawk or sumthin new history repeats itself i see the same repetitiveness pattern between the non- believers

and the revolutionaries The young guns with a nack and little experience you know the overlooked and thrown away youth

they are the next gen at least ageism isn't as bad in the usa as it is in asia but usa still has the degree dilemma meaning your a worthless

pos without a degree only a few people proved this wrong like steve jobs

Google do have an eBay alternative, it is called Google products. To the OP, do not be fooled into wasting all your time on a dream, eBay is a monopoly and you are not going to beat it. Spend your time on something realistic and you have a very good chance of succeeding, spend your time on a dream and you have an almost certain chance of failing.

I rather shoot for the moon and end up in the stars then end up as every other lemming

BTW because EbaY is a monopoly all you gotta do is do sumthin way better, cheaper, and heavily advertised and its as simple as apple pie

The last part most critical HEAVILY ADVERTISED im sure many members here could do an awesome programming job

Im mearly trying to put 2 and 2 together I can and will get the latter done no questions asked im almost thinking.....

Im going to go out on a limb here with my newbie small post status but WTH...

Should I do it? this will surely will trigger 9 negative responses and 1 positive but im going to say.....

Submit your trading site homepage screenshot sample or template

and let not only myself be the judge but also every bhw member

This could get interesting... and keep in mind your effort is not wasted

the best of the best could be heavily funded and invested if not by myself or people

I know then by others GO!!!

Shoot for the moon and hit the nearest tree. I would rather make a nice living doing the possible.

Well my 2 cents .
1. It is possible but a lot of work
2. I sell on my own websites ( actual products we stock in our warehouse. as well as Ebay. Make sure you allow direct importing from ebay like Bonanza does or atomic mall. Do not make it complicated like ubid does as the easier ti is the more chance of having useres who already use ebay use your site.
3. Initially offer it as free.
4. Must do alot of work to get this listings showing up on google, bing feeds etc

At this current time I do not see any solution or alternative besides learning how to use
eBay to your advantage.

Their is not any alternative to ebay and that is one of the problems with it! Lack of competition.

Come back when you know what you are talking about. There are literally thousands upon thousands of sites trying to replicate eBay, some with budgets of in the millions and have come nowhere near close and never will do.

look in order to launch something like this you either have to have a brilliant idea that no one did before or you need to come up with a different approach that will make you BETTER and more interesting from the current rivals.. which is something you don't have.. you want to be ebay alternative.. you want to beat ebay at their own game? seriously dude you might be aiming too high too fast.

Let me ask you this:
Do you really believe people will put money in your project? I mean real people (buyers)? you know how long it took for ebay to become what it is today? and if you are really serious why are u looking for people on black hat forum? what are u seeking to gain here?

I am with you Ryan! Currently cheesed off with eBay fleecing us sellers with their high fees and 99% buyer bias.
I am also in the middle of moving my listings to a private new WP site. Eventually will leave eBay and won't be a high fees slave to scamBay!
Keep me posted!
