What are some products people recommend going through that cover local? I am specifically interested in prospecting.

Thanks

What do you mean prospecting?

Pick, shovel, and 'gold in them thar hills'?

Acquiring clients. I thought that was the proper term.

If you are stating where to find potential businesses to market to, I would suggest Yellow Pages, Angies List, and Manta. All three can be scraped too.

Thing is, your question, I think is entirely too vague.

What do you mean acquiring clients? And what do you mean products?

* Are you talking about actually identifying the right sort of client you should be targeting?
* Are you talking about the right way of contacting/enaging?
* Are you talking about getting them to sign a contract, or do you just want to compile a list that you sell on to someone else?
* Regarding recommended programmes ... Are you talking about the tools to automate list scraping and so forth, or are you talking about information products on local marketing.

The very short version, is, it depends.

Is this B2C or B2B? There are differences in strategy. Hi value, low value products? Indeed products vs services.

Unless you take the time out to clearly spell out the sort of problem you are trying to solve, I doubt that you will get a response that is useful.

A good place to start would be businesses that don't yet have mobile optimized websites. It's generally the easiest lead-in sale, from my experience, with the next natural progression/upsell being Google+ Local optimization, so their new mobile site can be found in mobile search. As mentioned by others, scrapers are good. I'd recommend either Mobile Renegade or Places Scout, with Places Scout being much more robust and having a ton more features, and Mobile Renegade just focusing on mobile sites. Hope that helps.

I would recommend doing some reading on cold calling. You need to create a script for yourself or find someone who is successful and use theirs.

It really just comes with experience of knocking on doors and making phone calls. Half the battle is just having the balls to do it and to keep moving forward when someone says no.

Just remember when you talk to people to go by the adage WIIFM - What's In It For Me

Put yourself in their shoes and remember that to sell someone you need to show them why and how you can help them.

This is true with anything you want to sell.

Actually I am not clear ,
what do you wanna say?
you wanna open a local business?

The guy wants some information on how to source and convert local business leads for offline marketing.

OP: I would actually suggest you browse through this subforum, as there is a lot of trial and error that has already happened here that you can avoid. I own a content development business and we recently started local outreach, and there's a few gold nuggets of what "not" to do that I picked up in this forum.

Good luck!

Local? Start by door knocking, asking around. You'd be surprised that most businesses are not doing any type of Local seo.

You are right. I will try that. I am looking for products that teach you local. Specifically client acquisition & how to do local strategies. Your idea is good also and I will add that to what I am doing

No one can teach you "how to do local" - you need to learn how to sell. And for that, there are numerous books, eBooks, methods, DVD series and mentors out there who can help.

Start with "Influence" by Robert Cialdini. It's an excellent book that will help you learn the inner charisma that is needed to close deals. Also you might want to check out books by Jack Daly; the guy is a bit of a small-time sales guru but he knows his stuff.

I have read cialdian books already (50 ways to say yes another).

I was looking for specific product suggestions. Definitely will look into Jack Daly

1. Get a virtual phone number.
2. Build a site about any service as if you are the owner.
3. Point the phone number to someone on the 2nd or 3rd page of google, try to find someone who is running an adwords campaign.
4. Rank the site
5. Let it run until you have a couple dozen calls to the business, (I let 50 go in) then go visit the owner.(take the phone log with you.)
6. Ask for a minute of the owners time, introduce yourself as a freelance web designer, hand him the phone logs, and tell him that you have built this site, and picked his company to take the calls at random until the site was ranking. Tell her that the phone log shows the people who have come to her business thru your site, and she can check it against the phone numbers of her recent contacts. Tell them that since the site is ready for sale, you are about to sell it, or the leads from it if you wish. Tell the target no pressure, but you will be selling/leasing it out to the first taker, and then the phone number will be pointed to the new owner when that happens.

If you are worth a damn, the business will have had a surge of new customers, and not know why, or will have already found the site and wondered what the hell. If their income has shot up, Bob's your Uncle.

Or simply rent out the phone number on a per lead basis.

7. Profit.

That is an interesting twist on renting sites. Thanks and rep given.

What I was meaning was more like must see products. For example if you were to start using senuke xcr the videos that are on the site are kind of a must see. If you are using scrapebox looplines vidoes are a must see. Are there any "must see" products for local dealing with aquiring clients, actually how you do local seo (I am sure it is more then just citations), how you do google places, etc. Thanks again for all the help guys!
