I have tried

Manual blog posting, Automatic blog posting, forums, blogg and RSS directories, web 2.0 and social.

So far i would say that none of them are good, but i havent gotten that much links either, still working on it

Look at your competitors' backlink profile and try to copy as many of their links as you can. Then do all the other stuff, but start with this.

Use your articles for article marketing. Submit them regularly.
