Perhaps a rule about not harassing people looking for work?

I noticed today a thread wherein a member was looking to offer services in the proper forum section, only to be met with extremely distasteful and humiliating responses.

I know it should go without saying, but apparently it needs saying.

I won't mention the name of a certain recently upgraded Jr. VIP, but I'll be sure to take his contributions in the context of his especially deplorable treatment of another BHW member offering freelance services and trying to raise funds.

Is that the one Cyp cleaned up?

I agree that far too much flaming goes on here. Not just for people looking for work either. It's one thing to "encourage" noobs to read and use the search function but I can only imagine that alot of people new to the forum quickly form the opinion that we're a bunch of elitist assholes based on how they're treated.

Are you talking about arthas joke about hiring him for phone sex?

If the dude asking for help was in desperate need it might be inappropriate, but it's not like he was suffering all that much...

I am fairly new to BHW and have witnessed how members seem to turn on new members. This place is amazing but is spoilt by the attitude of a few and needs stamping out. This behaviour is very neanderthal and is the behaviour of some women on this forum. I have not analysed this but wonder if this is an American gang culture thing!!

yep.

Perhaps. I don't know. How do you know? Since when does YOUR context of "suffering" make humiliation appropriate?

Someone saying they need funds but won't work for it is one thing. This wasn't such a case. He never got a chance to discuss possible scenarios for offering services prior to the junk posts flooding in.

This behaviour is very neanderthal and is the behaviour of some women on this forum.

Do we have a sexist among us? I hope I'm reading that wrong.

sinewave, it's just my own opinion of course... it'd be foolish of me to think I have the only answer...

but really, I think the dude was asking for it when he titled his thread, "Will do more than you think for money".... LOL

Hah?

I have not analysed this but wonder if this is an American gang culture thing!!

Don't trouble yourself with "analysis". You're not very good at it.

I understand your point. But think about the following:

1) Perhaps he really meant it in the way it was received; he needs the money,
2) He may not be a native speaker of whatever vernacular [we] speak and might be allowed some dispensation for his particular expression.

Im just saying this and mean no "harrassment" but in his thread he claims perfect english..

"Perfect English" varies across the globe.

I don't mean to beat a dead horse, because I understand your point.

Let's get back to what I felt was the valid point that the guy was looking for work, posted here on this forum and was met with several degrading posts. For example, if someone genuinely wanted to pay for phone sex and felt that they needed to post all of the gritty details required ... why post publicly if for no other reason than to degrade the potential service provider? This forum is equipped with private messaging.

Le: Brainfart, I just woke up, the quote didn`t say who was the poster so I wrongfully thought it was sinewave. Sorry.

I understand where you're coming from sine, and I think it's admirable that you're saying something about well-meaning people getting messed with.

aliskorn, read the quote above that phrase you quoted-- I was talking about noidea's post.

Some people can become very vicious and inconsiderate when they are able to hide behind their computer screens and keyboards and not have to physically look the recipients of their verbal venom in the eye. I think it's the same people who are lacking the necessary social skills to go out and properly interact with people in the real world. Don't judge bhw members, as a whole, upon your observations. Just like every other social group on the planet, there will always be a few malcontents and misfits.

In my opinion, the forum areas where contractors offer their services should be treated as seriously as the For Sale threads in that they're about conducting business.

Posting the first smart-assed (or degrading, insulting) quip that pops into one's head is only disruptive to the spirit and intent of that section of the forum. If you're posting to a services offered thread without interest in the service or not genuinely helping that poster to clarify his/her skills or offerings, perhaps reconsider doing so.

Thanks to Mods & Admins for the intervention.

well said sinewave BHW is a valuable tool in our business.

We also need to remember that there are minors on this site who may not 'brush away' the comments as easily as us more 'mature ageing' members would!!

This whole thread was basically a shame. But the guy did receive some offers, so hopefully it turns out good for him in his jv. He was genuine in offering his services.
I don't know if the thread is still alive, but TheMagician and I did post comments about how inappropriate the attitude of some members was.

It's sad to say, but I think it is time to issue a general warning against such behaviour.

Ultimately, the thread was transformed into something I consider to be constructive, and hopefully others share that opinion.

Thanks again to Mods, Admins & members who brought it about and got it turned around in a positive manner.
