Check out vmware its probably the best to use with windows, and vmware fusion for the mac, just my opinion others will say different im sure.

I would agree with Harro, vmware is the best. You can download vmware server for free from vmware. vmware fusion is not free if you are running Mac but you can find a free version if you know where to look. not hard to find.

I use this also , works great and have 3 xps and one vista running on one laptop

Here is what I use/have used:

Virtual-Box, good and quite quick, free, only 1 cpu core

VMWare, commercial, 2 cores possible

KVM with qemu, full and fast virtualization - liunx host with windows guest

I'll throw another vote in for VMWare. I'm on a mac and have been using Parallels for years, and have just changed over to VMWare and it is awesome!

I vote for Virtual box, it's free and really useful.
I don't like VMWare,
But you choice is the most importance.

depends on what you want to do i guess. vmware is the most professional solution - even though i and some friends of mine had problems with it (on some computers the system locks after installation... no idea why... maybe the virtual network drivers)

if you just want a fast solution with no usb support go for microsoft virtual pc. i'm using it on my laptop to run windows xp and it's quite fast and very stable. i also used ms virtual server on my local server simulating linux and win2k - also worked very stable and i didn't restart the machines for months

vmware player is a free dowload - you can pick up optimized XP vmware images on any torrent site (search for sbox on pirate*bay)

Microsoft Virtual PC is free. It works great, fast and you can count on its stability. VMware player is a good virtual program also.

I agree parallel on a mac works great! Windows is pretty smooth and you can do lots of things I didn't think windows could do on a mac. Graphics are good as well.

I'm using xen inside of an amazon EC2 instance.. 6 XP's and 4 Linux running for my personal dev work

At the office I'm running xen on Centos w 2 XP and 4 Centos instances. It's nice on the workstation.
