Hi all,

I would just like to know if Hostwinds is as fast as they claim and also if they are reliable and fast with VPS hosting ?
If not, who else should I consider. ( There is so many I don't know what to do. )
I have a reseller hosting with amplehosting in south africa, but Im done with them it is too slow and always have problems with clients
complaining about emails and speed.

Thanks All

I personally don't like them. I used them a year ago and it was the worst experience with hosting I've ever had.

Hi jangoz,

Thanks for the reply.
What was the bad experience you had ? Also who do you use now for your hosting needs.

Thx for the advice.

Hostwinds have approve thread in BST and owner is nice guy. You can talk direct with owner. They have nice plans

I have worked with them on several sites and support has all ways been their when needed.

Load it up and give them a try it cant hurt. They use cPanel so if you don't like it after its up and you run the speed test for your site then pick a new host and move it.

Hostwind is nice and there CEO has direct communication , i have contact him and has solved my problem.. they are really nice . if you face any problem may be from level 1 support , kindly contact to the high authority. my personnel experience is they are nice.

thanks

I had downtime issues and the data loss too this year. So from them I learned that if any company says they have data backup and alternate method to keep you on then that is not true. I will not personally recommend them to anyone else. My experience was worst enough already. But if you want to take the risk, you can always test the waters and decide for yourself.

Hostwinds is a good company. There Tech support has done a good job
dealing with their clients. Also you can talk to the owner on his BST Thread.

Compared to like a year ago, they've gotten better.

Not the place I'd go if I needed good reliability though.

Look at the footer of BHW and you will see that they still use HostWinds ;)

Actually they don't use them anymore. That is an affiliate link down there, It used to be a direct link. Plus they sent out an email a while ago saying they switched hosts. And now that I mention it, I havent had any server errors here in a while.

I have to say they are the worst service I've ever used. They have dropped my sites for days over "Traffic Boosts".. that could take down there nodes. The only reason I noticed my sites were down was because my analytics. They are garbage.

HostGator is probably my favorite. But lately I've purchased some Dedicated Servers in Europe and they've been great.

They are the worst hosting company I ever used. Serious downtime for them was simply a matter a routine. The final straw came when I realised that, according to my Pingdom report, my site had been down http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/buy-sell-services/387925-hostwinds-exclusive-offers-blackhatworld-members-only-5.html#post4354361. Incidentally, this happened the same month that many clients had their websites permanently deleted because of a http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/web-hosting/447913-hostwinds-shared2-clients.html.

Since moving to HostGator, my sites haven't been down once. It's like a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders. Full-time IM is stressful enough without us having to worry about whether our sites are up in the first place.

If you're considering using HostWinds, think very hard about it. Not only will you be using a host that is notorious for downtime (just use the search button), but you'll also be using a host associated with 'bad neighborhood' sites (black hat activity, including BHW itself), which attracts a disproportionate number of hackers. My sites weren't personally hacked while on HostWinds, but I know many that were, including the sites of http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/blackhat-lounge/445424-my-site-got-hacked-hacked-b4tboy-wtf.html.

We (BHW) no longer use Hostwinds for hosting, the switch occurred in early July I believe.
