How Important Is Audience Retention For Ranking

Instead of paying for views why not just get real views? Unless you're video is really crappy or not very targeted for your select audience then you should have very good audience retention with natural views using good SEO and promotion.

ok. What you are saying is that we should make a good video, targeted to our audience, with good keyword rich title, descript and tags and just wait for the natural results? This looks like the simplest way to go.

Besides this, do you use any extra promotion?

yes that's exactly what i'm saying. and right now i'm not doing any other promotion but i'm sure it would help a lot if i did

I use the method myself and it works fine. In fact adding views slows down my ranking process but do whatever u want to do. Btw vagex doesn't give a flying f*ck about how long u set your video to be watched for. Audience retention of the views still remain the same. This also has been tested by me.

From personal experience, the higher the retention (especially relative), the better ranking the video will be.

It was useful for someone which is why I have thanks on my original post. If you didn't think it was useful then keep it moving instead of dedicating your time reading my thread and commenting.


To everyone else, I made this thread when I was high and I was thinking about the factors that play in ranking. If you don't agree with what I'm saying then that's fine. I stated in my original post that it was a hypothesis.

When I added views to my videos using view exchange programs I noticed that it takes me longer to rank but when talking to a buddy of mine who is in a completely different niche than I, he pointed out that not adding views to his videos resulted in them not ranking at all because they didn't look legit without any views.

I am in the movie niche and I make my videos look legit by the length of the video but for some people adding fake views may be necessary to make the video look legit enough to get real views.

Fake views make you look popular to the users viewing your videos. They are unnatural and will not help with your rank because they only view the video for such a short period of time.

For example: I used to know that on Tuesday in Sports it took about X views to rank 4th on the most viewed chart. And I could predict how many views you would get organically. But in June things changed. They started increasing the importance of engagement and gradually began deemphasizing view count.
