Website went offline = SERP drop?

Hey guys,

My website was offline for almost 12 hours (stupid Hoster) and is now back online. The thing is that I dropped in the SERP today. I just checked in the Google Webmaster tool and it seems that Google crawled my website during this offline period and reported an error.

Is this common? Do you think Ill get back to my regular ranking fast? (I was #1 for my keyword)

Yup you'll get back there...Just ping your site...and you should be there within a few days if not a few hours

Engines know these things happen. You would need to be down for many days before getting ranked down

I also switched to a new host today. Do google have certain host/ip on a "Black list"?
Could that be the reason of that drop or not at all?

Just realised that my ranking is still good for alot of different keywords.

The drop happened only for my Main keyword.

Google wants to create a good experience for its users. Showing a non functioning site high in the results does not provide a good experience.

As a result, Google may temporarily lower your position in response to prolonged downtime.

How much downtime it takes depends on the rate at which Google spiders your site. I used to run a trends news site, which Google spidered every few minutes. Downtime was a serious problem for me - if my site went down for just a few hours, webmaster tools would start showing crawl errors.

I have heard stories about sites being de-indexed after 24-48 hours downtime, and taking 3 months to return to their previous serps! The moral of the story is to pay for good hosting which is reliable. It's worthwhile insurance to prevent the possibility of something like this from happening.

I think in your case, 12 hours is probably not long enough to cause you a long term problem. I think it will just be a temporary dip.

Quite agree with you.It should be a temporary problem.The question is when it may get back it's rank while he is intending that the rank is dropped for only one keyword.What do you think?

LMAO, last Monday was a not a funny day for most people....

You will be fine and return back to normal very soon, had this happen when my host got hacked and lost all my files... thank god for backups. Got it backup within 3 days and was back to normal in SERPs within a week.

Good luck but i'm sure you'll be fine, as Micallef says, it depends on how often your site in crawled in the first place.

Google webmaster tools shows stats that are three days old, so if your downtime was today you cant see it in gwt yet.

I have been in that situation myself and i got my sites back where they where before the downtime, so i belive you would get them back there to. Resend sitemaps, ping the site and posts and it should be fine
