NEW Apple Patent to disable cameras

Apple has been granted a patent that would make your smartphone useless when entering an area deemed too sensitive for mobile photo and video.

The technology, if implemented, would likely be welcomed by many. It could, for example, be extremely useful to Hollywood executives worried about mobile-savvy bootleggers and teachers concerned about less-than-honest students.

But it also has some darker potential implications. Recent political and populist movements ? most notably the Arab Spring ? have relied heavily on the power of mobile devices and social media. Disabling protesters? ability to record police actions or other events would be a powerful controlling force.

And photo and video aren?t the only things that might be restricted. The patent, granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office in late August, would force devices to go to sleep entirely after entering certain areas. That means no Twitter, no Facebook, no calling, no texting.

Thank goodness Apple patented it, since it means only Apple mobile products will have them. So I'll just bring an Android or other brand device to the so-called 'sensitive' areas.

Apple is a brand made for people who want's to make other people think they are rich !
Apple have biggest shits of hardware. Come on, average Apple notebook costs around 2000-3000$ and with same specs you can buy any other brand laptop for less than 1000-1500$
I don't even want to talk about the phone. My Galaxy s2 is way more superior than iphone 4s, and s3 is even better.

You know I sit in the cinema nowadays here in the UK and I watch these adverts showing Cinemas in a derelict shanty town with a few people covered in cobwebs bleating on that Piracy is the death of Cinema. Families will disintegrate due to the fact they can no longer watch movies in a large hall with sticky carpets full of noisy people eating noisy food.

This is quickly followed by an outrageous statement on the screen stating the ridiculously huge fines people risk and it is a 'CRIMINAL OFFENCE' should they capture the film on their phones/camcorders.

Then along comes Apple with this shit. So even if I paid for my phone outright, then they can still dictate when and how I can friggin use it?. Give these barstewards an inch and they'll take a mile.

Sadly I fear other companies will implement their own versions of this consumer control but who knows, they might not have time to implement it as their fighting everyone and their granny in court claiming they invented the fucking rectangle and God only knows what our phones will look like then!.

This is awkward as I type from my Mac (but yet look at Android phone and HP computer).

Apple's OS is actually a pretty solid system, and a great ecosystem when paired with the other devices. Sure, you can buy a "comparable" windows computer for cheaper, but you can build an even cheaper PC for less, does that make the other brands shit too? A mustang can keep up with certain BMWs but BMWs are a lot more costly, does that make them shit? My 2.4GHz processor and 4GB ram Apple can outrun / keep up with my 2.5GHz processor and 8GB ram HP computer (with a fresh harddrive), but they can both run any of the Adobe products at multiple times so both, neither or one is shit?

I guarantee that Apple has a more solid platform than Windows / Android anything, and most likely always will. The extra price you pay is for a beautiful machine with fewer hiccups. Now, my Windows has never crashed ( besides a HDD failure ) but I still prefer to develop on a Mac, and use Mac for all business related things.

Apple's market is different from the Windows market, same as Ford's is different than BMW's.

That said, on topic wise, you don't have to carry an iPhone and you don't have to go into certain buildings. Someone that is bootlegging a movie or a kid in a school where phones aren't allowed, can't complain when the set rules are enforced.

Someone mentioned liberty, and I love my liberty of not having to chose a product I don't want. Apple isn't denying you liberty, but when you deny them the ability to create what they want to, you deny theirs.
