"The two companies did not disclose the details of the announcement"

Nope, information is hot off the presses so give it some time to marinate a little before the juicy details are up.

Oh right, cool, I doubt it's a big amount. Actually, not sure.. look forward to the figures.

Move on to Jotti..... I dislike google products.

Dump VT at the earliest opportunity. Especially for anything BH related, Google products and especially Gmail should be avoided like the bubonic plague.

It's amazing how the FTC sees no problem with Google expanding its empire to dominate anything related to the internet. Broadband, search, E-mail, VT, etc. Pretty soon everyone will have to login to a Google product before they even connect to the internet or visit any website. It's terrible regulators are such spineless pushovers.

What's wrong (in your opinion) with using Gmail for example?
Does goog read our email? Are they spying on us via email?

Is that a serious question? Yes they are reading your email - it's scanned automatically so they can serve relevant ads within Gmail, and you can be 100% sure that there is a direct pipe straight to the NSA as well (just the same as every major email provider and ISP). Gmail is teh sux.

All can be answered with a simple YouTube clip!

I think assphuck is thinking along the lines of "They can, it doesn't matter if they are". And it's just good sense really, you buy links to try and game Google, then you tell Google exactly what those links are by using Google Docs or GMail to send the report. That's sort of like telling the shop next door that you will be having a sale tomorrow, you just wouldn't give your competition that sort of information.

The fact that they do "Read your email" to deliver targeted ads means that they could potentially also "read your email" to extract any sort of data that they wish. Some of this may be useful to the product itself (Such as improving GMails Spam filters). But there is potential for other (mis)uses too.

(Read your email is in quotes because it's obviously an automated process, not a human).

So if all the email sent by every major email provider is "read",
who do you recommend we use for an email provider?

Also, If I want to send a confidential document, a spreadsheet, a PDF
or a Zip to someone, how do I do this and keep it confidential?

Is Dropbox safe?
Should I be using a file sharing site like MediaFire?

If you really have something to hide then no email provider is safe because literally all email (that goes through the US at least) is captured by the NSA... There are tons of articles about it if you hunt around, including a new massive facility they are building for their Total Information Awareness bullshit where they're basically going to be capturing all of America's data indefinitely.

As far as BH stuff is concerned, if one of the recipients is using Gmail then you're handing it over to The Enemy (Google)... Obviously they claim that they won't use it, and it would probably slip through the cracks, but if they are specifically interested in you then they'll read your email. There was a case a little while ago about a Google engineer who read the email of all these teenage girls he was stalking.

If you need to communicate or share files securely then you need to encrypt them yourself using gpg or possibly truecrypt. You can't rely on anyone else's encryption e.g. dropbox, amazon etc could easily share the keys used to encrypt anything you think you are securely encrypting on their servers.

They could make Google a new Monopoly game.
