URL Shortener + Google Analytics - Best Method

I'm currently using bit.ly but I'd like to be able to use my own website to do the shortening where I put the long link in and it randomly assigns it to mydomain.ext/aba (for example).

And then to be able to track all clicks on that URL in Google Analytics, so I know how each URL is performing.

What's the best way to accomplish this?

use goo.gl URL shortening instead. It already comes with powerful tracking feature - just like G Analytics

Won't my own website hosted URL shortening be able to be tracked in GA? I assume it'll show my shortened URL as the referrer and then I can drill down?

you can do ****** its best and you can shorten multiple link and its best for advertising and earn money through adds and if u have a website of huge traffic i sure that you can earn 10$ per day from that link shortner..

I tried that before and was less than impressed. The amount earned per click just wasn't worth it. I worked out the amount I got wasn't worth losing visitors, who I'd earn from if they'd carried on into the site and left their email address in my popup, or clicked Adsense etc.

Yes I believe you can do that as well, but it's more complicated that way, at least in my opinion...
