They gave me the last backup though. There are 11 WP sites in the account. I found a new host already, now i have the homedir.tar in the full backup. Do i upload this with the cpanel restore to the new hoster? Then? Create+Import into new databases and edit wp config file ? At what point do i have to put in the addon domains?

OR

Should i put in all addon domains first and then copy over each wp installation manually into the created folder from addon domain and adjust database and wp config file?

appreciate info on the best way to do it :)

when I change hosts - they always have a free migration service - can't you just give the new host the files and have them get you online again .. save the headache and chance of a mistake ?

I highly recommend you to ask the support of the new hoster for help. They are happy that you are moving to them, so if you have chosen any serious hosting company they will help you.

Thanks ! I sent them a ticket if they can help :)

yes, the new hosting company is the best persons who can do it for you. I got it done from Arvixe when I moved from hostgator..

Hi
Both Stablehost and MDDHosting are good to choose, they will help you move to their hosting. I have up 8 sites on Stablehost and it's running fast. Don't forget to use coupon code when purchase, coupon code can be found here hostot.com

You don't have to do anything other than restoring the backup file using cPanel restore feature. All Database's with the same filename will be created automatically as like you had on HostGator. You don't have to touch wp-config file also. Same goes for Add-on domains.

The only thing you've to keep in mind is the cPanel username for your new host should be the same as of your existing host. The reason to keep the same username is all mysql database's and username's will be created in this format (cPanel username_database name). If you chose a new username on your new host, then restoring backup from another host with different username will simply won't work and mess up the databases.

As like above members said, it's better to have your new host do the restore thing for you.

If you need any assistance, don't hesitate to drop me a PM. I'll be happy to assist and sort it out for you for free. Good Luck! :)

First choose a new hosting company and then convey your problem to them. If they can help you in info transfer then go with it.
