I have been reading a whole lot here at BHW, as you can tell from my join date vs. number of posts lol needless to say I have learned alot and have been sitting down with pen and paper lately to plan out a blog to try and make a little side money

so I started a free blog on blogger as a pet project for getting more acquainted with IM. I actually used a method I found here in the forums, and I have to say its looks pretty nice and has been getting a few views daily (30-40).

so my question is: is it better to try and monetize my blog from the start, or should I wait until I build up before placing adsense, etc.?

you can't monetize your blog without traffic
so focus on traffic and seo now
after getting arround 1k visitor so then you can put your ads

murderouspanda,

Great question about monetization. While I certainly respect what Nuker just said, and yeah you need more traffic, I would say you can start to monetize whenever you want. For some monetizing early is a way to garner more income so they can start outsourcing the workload to others, while others might view ads as a way to detract more visitors. You have to figure out the best strategy for your blog.

Speaking of strategies for blogs, I recently was reading this article about setting up a travel blog and found this pretty in depth article on seomoz.

Hope this and my comment is helpful!

Putting an ad up now doesn't hurt. However, if you have extra time between getting the traffic and seo (as mentioned above), why not try to scale your method up? Adsense revenue from just one new site is pretty small.

Monetize off the start. My new blog gets 40 visits/day no SEO yet, and I've already made 5 amazon sales, $10 adsense in the first month.. No reason to not make money.. Even if you are getting very little traffic in the start.

thank you everyone for your suggestions! I decided to throw up a couple of ads and we'll see how it goes

Patience is the key and like the comments below concentrate on content. The days for quick approval is gone and besides the tips you will find here the key is good pages with good content and traffic is good but for starters they want to see quality and that your serious on your topic (NICHE)

Thats the entrepreneurial approach but you need to monitor the content when you outsource to ensure they stay on point. But excellent source of data to keep handy on the link.

hey... check out adbrite I been playing with the cat and mouse adsense and Im up and running with them in like 5 minutes. They will as for your ssn.
