Keyword questions.. on broad search, What does this mean?

So, messing around with keywords in the Google Adsense keyword tool, i searched a 5 letter keyword for example 'ducks' (not real keyword) in 'broad' with 'Only show ideas closely related to my search terms' ticked.

ducks - low - 3,500,000 - 240,000 local

ducks ducks - low - 3,500,000 - 240,000

ducks shop - low - 110,000 - 9,000

etc..

What i want to know is..

1. why the 'ducks ducks' result?

2. would ducksducks.com be a good domain name since ducks.com is taken, if not, why not? if so, why do more not buy 2 short word domains...

exact for 'ducks' was 1,800,000 - 90,000 local

These questions may seem dumb lol and again 'ducks' is not the keyword, but it is a five letter word

what broad means :

for example :

iphone = broad keyword

iphone for sale = exact match

iphone 4s

iphone 5

broad means words in any order with an additional words added.

example: your keyword phrase is "fun iphone apps"

if it were broad it could be: iphone fun apps, fun apps for iphone, iphone apps fun...

exact means it is exactly typed in as the keywords are written. "fun iphone apps" and ONLY that phrase.


I would waste time with broad. you should focus on exact.

good question about doubling up on the keyword in the domain. Its not a good idea because in your "ducksducks" example someone would have to type in ducks twice for you to rank.

Keyword research on a 5 letter word is a waste of time. The sweet spot today is 3-5 word phrases. The reason single 5 letter words are a waste of time is because they're just too broad. Very few people today will search a single 5 letter word and expect a relevant result. You're wasting your time if you think you'll buy a single word dot com and rank it. Today people narrow their searches with at least 2 words but most of the time use 3-5. My minimum is a 2 word phrase but typically I aim for 3-4 word phrases.

This actually is a good point. People are way more detailed in their searches now due to the sheer amount of information available online.

The Google Keyword tool generates keyword ideas that the search engine has data for based on the keyword you typed into the tool, in this case "ducks." The tool suggests the "ducks ducks" keyword because it is related to the original word and also has query history behind it which is the global and monthly search volumes. In contrast, the tool would not recommend words or phrases that have no search history.

The factors to consider in choosing a domain should include impact on SEO however this is not the only consideration that a person or company should think about. Having a high volume keyword or phrase as the domain name for your site will not necessarily have the impact that the keyword tool suggests. For instance, ducks ducks may have high search volume but it may also have high competition. If this is the case, simply using it in website copy or as the domain name will not guarantee you placement ahead of other websites that are using the same phrase. Google's keyword tool is meant to be a guide in generating keyword ideas however it does not give users the end result "best" keywords to use in copy, meta tags or as domains. You would need to use a keyword research formula to determine which keyword would be most effective in bringing higher search engine rankings.

Another facet to placing keywords in a domain is that even by doing this, there are many more tasks that must be completed for a website to be optimized for search engines. In other words this is a small component in the overall task of optimizing your site for search engines. Having an effective keyword phrase as your domain may not outweigh the need for branding in your sites domain. For example, Coca Cola would not decide to use browncola.com just because it was a more effective keyword phrase than its brand name. It is sometimes more important to have a brand name as the top level domain and focus SEO efforts elsewhere on the site.
