Stop these 'Thanks' / 'Reputation' whores.

Here's what I posted a day or two ago on this situation.

The problem with neg repping is that people don't always learn from it. I can't remember the legal terms I was taught in high school but it's something along the lines of specifc and general punishments. Specific punishes the indivdual and should hopefully learn from it. Where as general still punishes the individua; but the community should learn from it.

Therefore I've made this post twice in the last week more than neg repping (which I have done quite a bit in the past). I'm not saying this is the right way to handle the situation but I feel posting this will benefit the community more in a public way rather than a -neg rep silently/directly/specifically punishing the individual.

Here's what I've been positing.

I was personally going to -neg rep you just because you asked for it in your post but I remember coming across this response from a moderator talking about the situation so I just wanted to give you a heads up (and not a neg rep). But simply, asking for REP and Thanks is not the way to go on BHW. If you contribute something valuable you WILL recieve REP and Thanks so there is NO NEED to ask for it. Honestly it could also have an adverse effect as there are lots of members who WILL neg rep you just because you asked for "reps and thanks'

Here's a comment from Super Moderator "WizGizmo" on what's called RepBegging and I suggest you take his advice.

You clearly didn't read OP, as I never said anything even close to that.

I just came into this thread because I saw the word "whore" in the title...was disappointed.

Sorry about that mate, I'll be sure to enclose nude pictures or something next time.

What's so good about this forum is that the reputation system doesn't get as abused like on other boards where people could create multiple accounts to drain your reputation points.

Not from my experience here thus far.

It's clear that plenty of members here don't even read threads before replying to them, so it's no surprise that there's some really stupid posts being made here.
That, or there's a language barrier. I'll be sure to translate my next thread to a few different languages to accommodate.

I have accepted a freebie or two that was offered in the threads but most of the time, I pass them by.

When I see someone that literally is asking or heavily suggesting (ie. Thanks and +Rep appreciated), I shoot them a msg and let them know that there are people that will neg rep for asking for it and suggest that they remove the sig/comment.

Most respond back and appreciate that I let them know.

It spreads the message but only one at a time... lol

You probably haven't been on other forums. Once you start having several hundred posts, you'll get haters and ones who will do all they can to give you negative rep.
I've been there and such people are mentally ill. This is the forum to be on, just don't make stupid posts or use slander.
