Do I make a contract when entering a JV?

So I was wondering if its common to have some kind of contract made when I join ventures with someone.
I'm looking for someone to provide service of video making for me, I want to give share of the profit.
Should I make a contract when I find this person, and how to I write it?

What exactly did you meant by legal documents?
Also, do I mentor anything about any business plains in to the contract itself?
Is there any contract templates available?

Yes, always, no questions period. Would never do a JV without a solid contract + have them get it notarized at bank, they fax or email it back, call bank ask to speak with notary for proof. Have lawyer go over contract. Done!
