Depends how many backlinks you need to create. Social Bookmarks and profiles (forum profiles) eat most of the captchas.

In the past I used senuke and ultimate demon and I was wasting like 3000 images for 800 bookmarking. I was just giving estimations about bookmarks.

You could also use a one-time-fee software like Captcha Sniper.
Unfortunately it can't solve so many Captcha types and in my opinion it is only worth in the long run.
