How would I monetize my image hosting site?

So I put together an image hosting site back in 2008 for a forum I run mainly because a lot of the members there couldn't figure out how to use photobucket (this was 2008). Since then I've kind of let it be and its gained a little more traction over the years. Well the last few months it has seemed to blow up and my webhost actually shut me down because of too many simulations connections.

I moved it over to a new hosting plan (that cost about 10x as much as the shared hosting I was using before). But now I'm ready to get serious with this. I've been working on a redesign for it the last few weeks and I'm going to have a lot of new cool stuff on it. As of now I have Adsense ads on it earning me pennies a day . I have read through all the threads on BHW discussing image/file hosting and I know it's a tough gig to make money with. But I'm not getting into image hosting to make money- I run a site right now that I want to monetize a little better. I need to be able to make $3-4/day on it to break even on the server I'm paying for now.

So any thoughts or ideas would be helpful. BHW rocks!

what images are mainly being uploaded to your hosting, NSFW or family safe ? If they are family safe dont bother monetizing ! If they are NSFW there is allot of adult advertising companies out there crying for porn/nsfw website owners ... JuicyAds is one of them

Well it started as mainly car pics, then it grew to car pics, gun pics, and funny pics. Now just about everything gets uploaded there and I moved to a webhosting plan that doesn't care. I just try and clean up anything that might not be "legal" to have, but everything else I could care less about. Definitely NOT family safe.

Although I'm not against putting dirty ads all over the page, I'm just trying to think of a creative way to monetize the actual image hosting itself. No one is going to pay for an image host, there are tons out there. I haven't ever tried setting up a simple donation button, but can't imagine who actually donates to sites. I know I have a return rate of close to 50%, so people that use it come back...and that's why I don't delete images. I was thinking of "if you donate, your images will stay forever", if not delete images after a few months, etc...I dont know. Like I said, I'm open to any ideas.
