Just wondering, can anyone here provide me a short summary on how to run a website? Just a few general questions such as:

-What's a niche?
- How do you make money off a website?
- What is "traffic"?
- How do you run a website?

- What's a niche?

A "niche" (as in "niche market" in traditional marketing) is a subset of a specific market.
In Internet Marketing, it is basically the main topic on which your website will focus.

For example, a website or blog offering reviews of cool iphone apps would be in the "iphone apps" niche.
Similarly, BlackHatWorld is a forum mainly in the "internet marketing" and "seo" niches.

- How do you make money off a website?

There are many ways to make money from a website (and a search function on BHW to help you find more info because virtually all of them have been discussed here already).
Basically it all comes down to placing ads on your site, or directly selling products/services to your visitors.
Another way is to "flip" a website: once you have added value to a site, you sell it to someone for a profit.

- What is "traffic"?

As "road traffic" represents the cars using a road, website "traffic" represents the internet users who visit your website.
So "getting traffic" goes down to advertising your website so people will come to it.

- How do you run a website?

Running a website is operating the said website, just like running a business is operating the business.
Answering this question in details could lead to writing at least 30 books. (I could have said 300, and actually there are already more that already exist)
But once again, virtually all topics have been discussed in this very forum, the search function will help you find more than you need.

I don't think that this forum will give you the answers you need, at the moment.
as a fresh starter I think that first off all you have a lot of self learning to do.
start with googling your questions.
later on when you'll be "smarter' & more speciphic with your needs, then the guys here could help you much more.
