Hey BHW

I have an e-commerce site which I am about to launch, the site is live but with a default template and sample products throughout.

I was wondering if anyone had some pre-launch SEO ideas that could help me out before the content is live. I have done some socials such as a launch date discount for twitter followers and FB page - likers.

Any help would be great

Thanks

I'd say first thing is to immediately put some content (products) on your site and remove the sample cart products. You don't want to start getting indexed for the sample data. It should be easy enough to create a relevant homepage and a few general category pages. At the very least do this even if you don't add any products. If you have a couple products that you know you're planning to sell, go ahead and add them now anyway. With your ecommerce software you should be able to make them "out of stock" or "not available for purchase" if you're not ready to sell yet.

Once you get that set up go after the usual backlink suspects. Also how about Putin up a "coming soon, enter your email for coupon" so you can begin to build a list of potential customers.

start link building to your domain. i would also recommend putting up a coming soon page with 400+ words of content to describe what products you are selling and what it is you do. the longer your site is up the better.

You could send out a press release telling that your site will go live soon. This will give you some back links. Maybe you could add a email capture on your page for now where visitors can signup to be notified when your site is going live.

good luck with the launch

- Add 500 to 1000 words unique article on home page.
- Do on Page SEO
- Create 1 Squidoo Lens
- Add 10 Articles to Article Directories
- Add 10 Articles to 10 Press Release
- Add 10 Articles to 10 Web 2.0
- 10 Social Bookmarks
- Submit Site to 10 Web Directories
- Submit 1 Video to 10 Video Submission Sites

Afterthat leave your site, and adding content for 30 days.

After 30 days repeat these steps.

One small thing most people tend to overlook (especially with CMS sites such as Joomla) is SEO friendly urls. Whatever you do before you launch your site, make sure your URLS are SEO friendly and make sure they all work! - THIS is goes a long way with e-commerce.

And don't forget your sitemap!

That's extremely specific... what makes you choose those particular properties and in those exact amounts? Why not wiki's for instance? Why not Twitter? Is there a strategy, or just your personal habits?

Also aren't you worried about blasting, and then leaving it cold without new links for 30 full days... and then blasting again? This used to be a no-no. Have you seen an advantage to leaving it hot/cold in long 30 day cycles? Thx

Well this is for eCommerce website, because ecommerce is huge tons of pages, adding products daily and etc etc ..

I use twitter, facebook, Google + and yes PINTEREST for instance.

I did these steps for home page only for 30 days that means adding backlinks 10 links/aday.

And its not about blasting your site, because we add high quality unique articles on them.

And you dont get backlinks for instance because if you add articles on ezine or anyother site or do blogcomments they are on moderation, that means you dont know when ll you approve.

These things gone naturally ..

Well mate these days SEO Panda/Penguin is nothing.

Just add quality content, create backlinks relevant and high quality.

Panda = Quality Content
Penguin = Quality Backlinks

Hopefully you have a niche product with low competition and well price (wishful thinking). Make your site attractive with interesting content and video. Determine Avg time people visit site and clicks, Avg ticket size and revenue. Then you can spent money marketing website.

Seems like a nice strategy, cheers. I have a few videos i am going to release before launch too. Once i see customer behavior I will start to spend money i think.

what ecommerce platform are you using?

I'm using magento

I would like to add to djc225's tips, that as soon as you launch your site & untill you start sellling your goods, try to ask the potentials that reach your site to provide their details. promise those who do an "openning discaunt" or somthing like that and now you start building your data base as well.

go make some money :)

Thanks, I have added an opt-in newsletter for sign ups to the website with incentive of discounts within the newsletter.

Currently focusing on category management & need to write some T & C's!

Videos will be released also on the few days before launch. I am yet to add the blog page though, i am hoping to launch in the coming weeks...
