How do you rank on G co.uk?

Can anyone tell me how to go about this matter? I am trying to rank a website for an offline service aimed mainly at Brits. While it ranks alright on .com which is totally worthless to the business, on co.uk it is always a couple of positions behind. How do you bring the co.uk ranks up? And is there a BST on BHW that can help with that?

I'm not really sure but I think you should be fine ranking your co.uk for United Kingdom traffic. Maybe from other countries you won't see it well ranked that's what I don't really know. You can see some examples like topcashback co uk, raking first for "best cashback".

Just to make things further more clear, the website I am trying to rank is on .com extension.

Here are some ranking factors to get your site ranked in g$$gle .co .uk:

- Use a UK host, or;
- Set the location in Google Webmaster tools, and;
- Get links from UK sites.

Add the site to Google Webmaster tools and set your preferred location to UK. If your site was a co.uk then would tend to rank higher in the UK but .com is world wide generic so you need to let Google know what is your target location.

You don't necessarily need a .co.uk domain, but setting the targeting in GWT to United Kingdom is what matters.

I've had .coms and .nets ranked in Google UK with no probs, so no worries about the domain's country code.

Then just build links as you would for a .com website and rank

Thank you very much for all the valuable input! Thanks given to you all. Will apply all the suggested changes as soon as I get something fixed related to the website and then will come back and report in a month if and how much that helped.

Btw, do you happen to know any good sources/services that can provide links on quality co.uk websites?

Personally I find Google making a complete hash of things in Google.co.uk for my company dot com and company dot co.uk sites and they have both been around since 1994.

The .com hardly ranks for anything in the UK these days and the .co.uk may as well not be there now for all the traffic it gets, and the majority of that is from the USA, therefore I'm seriously considering just launching the entire .com site on the .co.uk url and see what happens.

At the moment the .co.uk is a completely different site to the .com, let's see how the mega meddler copes with a complete duplicate!

I never used to have this problem, both sites ranked extremely well in the UK Serps but all it is now is a pointless mess and full of spammy MFA keyword domains.

Bing does a better job but by no means good though, those MFAs are everywhere again.
