A little SEO Help

Well to start off I got an issue with my serps. When i type in mywebsite.com in google, I get my social bookmarks and web 2.0s ranking higher than my website. This issue has not happened with my past newly registered sites. Also this website was bought from another website owner and it has existed for four years. I am pretty sure it was not penalized since I did all the backlink checks and penalty checks. Something is wrong and I need to get to the bottom of this.

Also on a side note- all my competitors with less backlinks than me are ranking above me. Ive got social, and a variety of all different types of backlinks.

Who cares? I've never googled for mywebsite.com.

How many people out there are actually googling for yourwebsite.com?

Better to rank for your money keywords. Unless your website is so popular people are actually googling for mywebsite.com in which case it will be number one naturally. Hell if it's so popular you don't even have to type the whole thing and google will suggest it to you even if you aren't searching for it.

Is the site added to your Webmaster Tools account? If it is not, add it and keep an eye out for warning notices. Also look for duplicate content, where you homepage is duplicated on your site (www.domain.com,domain.com,domain.com/index.php,etc).

Your four year old website should rank first for its domain. The fact that it does not indicates there are indeed problems. Such issues are common on new domains, but not on established websites.

If your backlinks are being ranked higher than your money site then there is definitely an issue with your link building strategy. I would consider revising the strategy, diversifying more, and build links consistantly.
