Backlink Anchor Text Analysis

Hey Guys,
Anyone have any suggestions for backlink anchor text analysis tools/software?
I currently have SEO PowerSuite which has SpyGlass but its useless in this particular aspect as it reports on the links rather than the anchor text (ie: i can see all the links, and each of there anchors, but cant for example see that i have used "blue widget" as my anchor text "1309482" times).

I know of sites out there, eg: ahrefs.com, that allow you to do this as a monthly subscription service - but Im poor and need something cheaper! Looking for a once off software purchase and not something I have to pay monthly for.
Any suggestions?

From my understanding the type of information you're looking for is gathered continuously by web crawlers, ie I'm pretty sure that each of those services you mentioned run their own web crawling software probably 24/7 on their own servers (or pay big $$ to access someone elses data)...this is why there is no one off software, but only services that allow you access to their HUGE and continuously updated database of information gathered from crawling.....you could look for your own web crawling software, that would be one off - but then you'd need a lot more than what these services charge monthly to pay for the servers and bandwith to do your own crawling and making your own 'map' of the ENTIRE internet, hehe =P

Im looking into these tools also for my own analysis...pm me and I'll let you know what I find for cheap once I've had a thorough look around.

If your trying to save a buck, you can get around using ahrefs by making new accounts.

However, ahrefs quality is not nearly as good as majestic SEO. I know your trying to keep your costs low, but with a lower quality site explorer such as ahrefs, you run the chance of getting inaccurate info. It may say that your competition has only 10 anchor text links for whatever keyword your targetting, when in reality they may have hundreds.

Majestic SEO is definitely the best quality. You can pay the $50 for only one month, and do all the competition analysis you may need for months to come.

Anyone have any insights as to why there is often such a huge variation in counts between different link analysis tools? (ie between ahrefs and and majestic and open site explorer, from SEOm0z, the difference can be huge even for old domains)

The difference between all of those services is because they all use their own web crawlers and servers to collect the data. So they don't all crawl the same parts of the web or crawl them in different ways. I think OSE attempts to eliminate reporting on useless/junl links to some extent and Majestic records every single link it finds.

Granted OSE still reports on junky links but I think they do make some attempt to ignore some.

I agree Majestic has the largest most comprehensive index but I think OSE has better reporting on the quality of the links with their various metrics (mozTrust, Page Authority, Domain Authority, etc)
