Okay so I have been doing a lot of fiddling around on the google keywords tool and found a keyword that I am considering using to start a (somewhat micro) niche site......

The keyword has only 73 global monthly searches, and 58 local (United States) searches.
But the estimated CPC is $2.61 and the competition is High.
There are 4,720,000 results on Google when I search the keyword.

The only reason I am really considering it is because the exact domain is available for this keyword, and it is the first keyword I have found on my own that the exact domain is available for...

So I am wondering if this would be worth it or not, as most posts I have read dealing with keyword research says they should have at least 200 monthly searches and high competition, with low (under 300k) results on google..

Looking to the almighty wisdom of BHW for this one. In the mean-time, back to searching for a better keyword!

i think you should generally go for something with:
1k local searches
1+ cpc
high ad competition

also try to get more info about competitors, maybe their PR, BL, age..etc,

Ensure you do enough research before you waste time on a project.

I appreciate the helpful advice BlankToy.
I was looking more into the results for the keyword on Google, and realized its quite a general term. That coupled with the low search volume has led me away from the original keyword I was thinking about.

Any advice on finding the right keyword? It feels almost impossible to find an [Exact] keyword with over 500 monthly searches, high advertiser competition, and decent cpc...let alone 1,000 searches! Even harder to find one that has the matching domain available...and I have spent hours in the keyword tool..

That's not to include the raunchy adult keywords I have typed in jokingly, and been astonished at how many monthly searches there are for them lol...

Finding 1500+ exact monthly searches is not that hard bro

I suggest you try harder and spent more time learning KW research

Regarding your keyword with 58 searches per month divide that by 30 days how many visitor u will get per day?

The answer is NONE not even 1 UV per day so how are u gonna make money with it?

Dont waste ur time on that keyword and please dont give up its really not that hard

I think you need to think about CTR and what that would actually mean for 70 searches per month at $2 with a 5% CTR (and that's if you get the #1 spot). But it's a good place to start. I'm targetting a niche that has only 50 searches a month locally. I'm on page one and have had 1 sale in 1 week.

I know finding keywords with 1500+ exact searches isnt that hard, but I mean it is hard to find that with a domain thats actually available.
EG. I would like to find a keyword with even 500+ exact monthly searches that the domain is available for like TheKeyword.com or something along those lines.

Where do you guys start when you start when brainstorming for new keywords?
I have started with checking out keywords that I would likely search (not finding anything all that grand)..

58 searches per month, if you are in spot #1, you'll get 23 visitors and that would lead to 0.3 sales per month, meaning you'll make a sale every third month - is it worth :)

Yeah, I realized it's not worth it already :)
However, how does one go about finding the keywords that actually are worth it?

I know keyword research has a whole lot to do with it, but where do you start? Researching the keyword is one thing, but actually finding the keyword to research is another thing altogether.
