I wanna build an autorithy website in the same niche and they are doing very well.
I'm not that expert with stats and "how to find how much they earn" so I ask you.

Yeah I know of LivingElectro but it's a warez song website.
This is not, and they are earning from AdSense at the right sidebar.

Is there a way of making a website with free copyrighted download and not being sued for that?

NOT speaking for expirience, but I doubt it... I mean think about it... you go to iTunes, download a song for $0.99, and then share it with everyone?

On a side note I have another question...
How do those DJs at clubs give out their mix tapes with the newest songs?

Liek whehn DeadMau5 released his 4x4=12, some DJs used his song, put it on their mixes and gave it away for free... Is that legal?

Yeah man, we are going a little bit off topic but I will answer your question.
Technically is not legal, but in general an artist doesn't care much. I mean, if few people listen to the mix, and they probably like one of deadmau5 song's they don't know about it, they will search for that song, they will check out other deadmau5 songs and probably they will end to see deadmau5 live.

So, my question now is, LivingElectro is online from a lot of years, and they spread free music on the web, but no one is beign arrested. What's that about, like offshore hosting?

I really wanna open a blog about that, preferably legal as DancingAstronaut one.

I think they probably make about 6000 a month considering the amount of views they have on Youtube and there videos have a fair amount of comments. They also have about 22 000 followers on Twitter and a majority of them are active.

You can distribute music pretty freely but they have to be mixes. From my understanding, artists (Justin Beiber, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Insert pop artist/rapper here) have the copyrights to their songs, (or whoever wrote it for them). But DJ (deadmau5 for example) can remix the songs because of something called "fair use" they aren't profiting from the song and they can't repackage (remix) the song and resell it but the performance (or service) of mixing the song is what DJs make most of their money that's why they get paid by gigs. I think this is why the music niche (I browse them often) normally only has REMIXES of songs but not the real track by the original artist. Hope this helps.

Fatalz, what if one song is followed the other song in a mix? Is that legal. What I'm getting it is imagine a $20 Justin beiber cd. You take it and combine all the songs into one, which essentially becomes a mi o it's own. And I give tat away fr free... That's legal?


And technically... They can profit from a song if the remix is good enough and they put it on their next cd

I don't know about the producing part, but I'm sure the original artist will get a cut if the DJ produces a CD. That's why it always says track blah blah blah feat. (artist here)

As far as mixes with the same artists songs all blended into one. Aside from it probably not being a very good mix, making it not popular, meaning less downloads, which would mean less money. I think there has to be a certain amount of variation within songs. I'm not a copyright lawyer so I can't say for sure. But I believe that's pretty much true.

I think they make mid xxxx per month. But that is just based on what it looks like on the site. But I am not a expert too.
