War. War never changes.
This is completely contrary to my experiences. Building backlinks still work absolutely fine and dandy. I don't understand the web 2.0 links being devalued especially - not from my experience! Link diversity blasts with 20+ anchor links, mostly generic, has saved plenty of my sites from the grips of Google. And bookmarking? Please. Especially in easy niches this will rank alone.
Super confused by all of this and people going "SPEAKS THE TRUTH". Yeah, maybe if you're targeting a loan keyword in the USA!
Here are two in-depth videos by Dori Friend with extensive testing regarding links. I haven't finished
watching the first video, but it's excellent and covers the recent changes. There are some
suprising results with backlink testing. Note "branding" backlinks where it will be your "brand"
followed by the anchor link. You'll want, what she calls, "onezy, tuezie" to make Google happy.
That will be some anchor text only one or two people have used. In other words, you want
to have a mix of what a population of people will use that appears normal.
Another thing covered in video 1, are links from de-indexed sites, and that tests show the links
still have "juice". These are worth watching. Dori Friend and friends are knowledgeable.

A lot of typing went into this thread but PLEASE if your best advice to members on BHW is to do nothing then DON'T MAKE THREADS. Google has never beat BHW marketing and never will. The reason is quite simple. They must work on a macro level while we can work in the micro world. The only thing and I mean ONLY THING that gives Google any sort of advantage is bullshit threads like this that all but tells webmasters to sit on their asses and do nothing. This is just what Google wants to see on BHW.
If you're waiting for Google to do anything for you then you'll be waiting a long time. You get to the top of the pile by working. Trying ideas and putting together what works and tossing what doesn't. You don't get anywhere sitting on your ass whining or waiting. Google changes affect the whole search engine. They can't afford to toss the baby with the bath-water so they have to be careful about changes to their algo that might target a few smart SOBs that beat their system. They'll have too much collateral damage they can ill afford with the FTC breathing down their necks.
So just like we've always done, we find the cracks in the fortress and walk right in. We find the exploits by trial and error on properties that we can afford to lose. WHAT HAS NEVER WORKED is sitting on our asses or doing what Google says works. Google has left hundreds of thousands of ass-kissers in their wake. People that supported them on their forums and blogs for years have suddenly seen their online properties fall out of the serps doing exactly what Google told them would work.
Please NEVER use the terms natural or unnatural links. They don't exist. Never have and never will. Those are Google phrases that make no sense. Build a website, the best website and see how many natural links occur without intervention. Few, very few. Links happen on large sites because when the sites were founded the builders invested time and money into marketing the site and created UNNATURAL links by Google's definition. They were all rewarded. EVER LAST ONE OF THEM! So the next time you get an idea to take a swig of Google Kool-Aid and come to BHW and tell us how unnatural links are taboo and evil. Trade that Kool-Aid for a beer and forget that Google bullshit.
I've been in the trenches for years and before some of you were born. I suffered my first online Trademark lawsuit in 1998 for out ranking a pos check guarantee service that was / is nothing but a scam. Since that time I've outranked thousands of other websites but I didn't do any of it by sitting on my ass or listening to what the search engines said works. I learned through trial and error and keeping after it.
If you want to beat Google, get the right tools and get to work. Take notes and monitor your results. As long as you're working you're moving forward. You'll never make a mistake while you're working. You'll discover what doesn't work and change to what does work. Sit on your ass and you're done. Get your resume ready and start looking for a job. I've been hiring workers for almost 25 years. I make jobs for people that give up. Don't be one of those people. Only one thing separates the job makers from the job workers. DRIVE to do better!
