Brand Name Domains - Would you do it?

So, I found an EMD domain, but it's a brand name... and I mean, an exact brand name.

Let's say for example it is: iphone4s.net

Global Search: 22000+
Local Search: 12000+
CPC: $2+

Would you take it? What would you do with it?

I'm considering it, but I'm wondering if it's worth the risk of getting a cease and desist letter and wasting my time. It's a pretty big company (Sony/Apple caliber).

Most domains of this type are just parked domains. I'm guessing to get direct traffic.

Does anyone have any experience with brand name domains?

nope. not with iphone! they would do everything to take it back.
There was a case with ipad3.com which was owned by someone since 2008 and apple just took it away from them.

Back in the day you could make good money before the domain dispute resolution process was created. These days you risk being sued and losing thousands of dollars. Forget the domain or register it and add a good attorney to the shopping cart before checkout.

I have had a .net brandname for about 6 months now, and have not been hassled about it. Funny part is when I checked it out, the company used to own it and redirected it to their .com, and for some reason they dropped it. Its pretty much wrecked, 10k backlinks on it when I got it, Im assuming it must be penalized like crazy, but I still get on average $5 a month via adsense because it ranks in other search engines. If they decided to take the domain back, I would be in the plus on it at this point, so I woulnt care

Back with .co's came out, I had A BUNCH of domains from companies that have the .com but forgot to get the .co. Really good ones. I received a few C&D letters... and I had to comply.

However, I did make my money back. My mistake was not having WHOIS (as it was unavailable on .co at the time) and not clocking my affiliate link.

So, I would buy it if it is cheap and if they have an affiliate program that you can enroll in. Have it go to a shorter URL service before it hits your affiliate link though.

If they ask for it, you are out $10 but hopefully you made some money while you could.

My issue is that I am not well versed enough in blackhat traffic to make this profitable I think.

I was planning on ranking it, but that would involve spending money on SEO services that may simply be in vain.

Just think of how many domains that would be.

Let's take iphone for example.

Iphone 3 comes out.... then they need to register

iphone.com/net/org/co/biz/etc...
iphone3.com/net/org/co/biz/etc..
iphone3g.com/net/org/co/biz
iphone3gs.com/net/org/co/biz

Then iphone4 comes out, then iphone 4s, then iphone 5... you get my drift... it would be never ending. plus they have ipod, ipodnano, mac, macbookpro, macbook, etc...
