Looking for some reviews on my website.

It looks pretty good. The view portfolio and the other blue button are way too big though. Maybe you can upload bigger pictures of your graphics and scale down the size of these buttons.

Thanks for the feedback. I've had the same comment before about those buttons being too big; and believe it or not those actually were scaled down a bit, lol! I probably should shrink them down even more, though.

I think your text is a bit illegible. Typography is a really important skill for all web designers to learn and employ.

The first thing you need to do is remove the <br /> on your copy. Always use <p> tags around paragraphs so that you can style them later! Also, to that end, all of your text is running up on each-other. Set a line-height (1.5em recommended) and add a margin-bottom to <p> (also recommended 1.5em).

When you say my text is a bit illegible, is it because of the line height and the text is too small?

I guess it makes sense to wrap each paragraph in it's own <p> tag and give it some margin ><

Thanks!

Yes, the browser defaults for line-height and margins are very poor. You should always have some "base" typography styles that you use in every theme to save yourself time and to make readers happy. Giving things room to "breathe" makes your design look much better with very little work

Thanks for the advice. I'll make some changes tomorrow and keep that in mind for future reference!

Am I right when I say my content is really bad? Anyone know a good content writer for reasonable price?

Hi There.....I am massively dissapointed in some of the requests to critique sites on BHW. Lately the standard people have been presenting is shocking.. Some guys just buy a theme and then ask "hows my Site ? "... Anyway your site is a pleasant surprise..Looks very sharp and obviously you have spent time on it. If I was to hand out any criticism I would say your logo design is very good but can you sharpen the defintion of your images to make them jump off the page ?. Your content is very good but does sound like a young guy offering up his hobby..You need to define who your customers are and speak to them directly. You dont need to use corporation speak but it is a call to action not a mini bio. Some of the copyright guys in here might let you know if you have a problem using variations on monster and ford logos ? it may be seen as fair use but also you may have to put a disclaimer in there somewhere...not certain but you should check..anyway good job

Thanks for your review!

You bring up a good point about copyright issues. I do have another bar that will go at the bottom of the footer with Terms, Privacy, Guarantee and probably now Disclaimer, just waiting to finish writing those pages. I'll talk to some copyright guys and see if that's good enough though.

I can work on making the images *pop* better but were there any in particular ie. the buttons, service images, or just everything?

I guess my content is not as bad as I thought (we are always so critical on ourselves, right?) but I'd like it to sound more professional. It does read more like a mini bio instead of a company targeting an audience, so I'll work on that.

Anyway thanks for the all the feedback so far. Everyone's input has been very helpful so far. This place rocks! :)

BTW: I just wanted to update the thread and mention I have changed the portfolio and quote button sizes, as well as improved the legibility of the typography as was suggested!

Cheers.

This site is not a good design in today's SEO world, there is nothing above the fold on the home page that grabs the visitor, including what you do.

No where does a visitor see what you do, or a phone number to contact you, the page title is useless for seo and tells the customer nothing, there is no description, You haven't done your on page seo, only your slide show tells me anything, and it immediately tells me that you build forum signatures. Your average customer will not know what that even is, but they will know that they do not need one, and move along.

And you are right, the page copy is awful and will cost you customers. You are essentially telling them, "I self taught myself to do this last January and now I want you to turn over your business to me". This is information they do not need and anyway all this type of info is for your about me page. Your home page should be about what benefits your service brings to me, what you do better, faster, or cheaper than the other guy, or the perks you have that other people don't. As a customer, I am interested in what's in it for me. Cost is not as important as making me happy.

People make room in their lives for things they want, even cheapo businessmen will spend money when they want something bad enough.

You have to make them want what you have that bad, and you only have the home page above the fold and 7 seconds to set the hook. If that doesn't do t, that potential customer is gone for good.

Don't show forum signature designs on your site. It's sophomoric and customers who want to spend a good amount of money on your web designs or what not could care less about those imo. You should be showcasing amazing web designs and logos.

Thanks for the honest review!

I agree with you on a lot of points. I'm going to work on it this weekend and take what you said into consideration!

Yeah I hear ya. I've been thinking that the forum signatures are kinda irrelevant too. I'll probably end up changing the show case this weekend too, maybe even take the signatures right out of my portfolio for now.

Didn't read every comment above, but what jumps out at me is:
- The examples of your HTML / CSS work are a little unusual in that they might need more contrast (color-wise) from the rest of your site.
- The background of the section near the top that shows what page you are visiting (Home/Portfolio/Services/Contact) contains your crown image, but it's difficult to make it out at first glance.

Looks pretty slick, though!

Your site not looking good. It has no more images adn text ro other on home page and the text is large. There is nothing to understand than your banner.

You need a tag line for your company that states your mission goal plus you should add a call to action.

Thank you for the additional feedback.

I have made some more changes today; added a tag line which you can't miss when you land on the site, which hopefully right away tells people what I do. I improved the content on the home page (hopefully xD ) and will work on changing all the sliders to showcase each service instead of just forum signatures (been meaning to update this for a while).

You can see the updates here: site updates

I think it has improved a lot with just some minor changes and wanted to say thanks for all the feedback!

I like it! While I am not a fan of the black background for web design and social media, it looks elegant. Also the services page is informative. One thing in the contact page, the fields are not that visible, put a little lighter background color for the fields so people can know where to write.

Thanks for the feedback. I personally like the black background because it's something different than everyone else is doing, and like you said it looks elegant; fitting for a design company I thought.
