Hello BHW. Advice for Noob?

Have an OK understanding of SEO. Never done it before though. Any advice? What category should I focus on? Or multiple categories? Here are the steps I am planning:
1. Find Category
2. Keyword Research
3. Buy Domain
4. Build Traffic
5. Monetize Traffic

Will update you with progress. How much time does it take for step #4?

One important point is " Content" because Content is always king. i will suggest some way :-
First select site name
select domain name like .com, .in, if local so select local domain name
Select Low competition keyword using Google Adwords
Work On page
Tag with image
Then start Off page.

You made a huge blemish just in your first sentence. It is impossible to truly understand something unless you experience it. Understanding basic theories is an inferior way to look at something and you will never reach the essence. I understood seo just like you but until I became a professional content writer and moved up the ranks I really understood what seo really is all about. The deeper you dig, the more value you will find my friend.

I can literally spend hours sharing with you what I know about SEO. I wish you the best of luck on your endeavor. I would suggest you spend some time listening to Matt Cutts and the gang. Learn both white and black hat seo tactics then you will become invincible like many of the members on this forum.

These are useful noob "essentials". Thanks! Site name is dependent on the Keyword(s). Keyword is dependent on category. All categories do not convert equally. I am sure that there are some "highly competitive" categories like Auto Insurance etc and then there would be some not-so-competitive. Any suggestions on how to find not-competitive categories?

There would be a learning curve. How much time does it take to have ~3000 unique users per month (100 unique users/day)? At this time I am not even thinking about monetization. LOL
