Windows XP help

Hey,

Got a problem with windows xp and was hoping somebody here might be able to help. I just formatted my dads computer and installed windows xp on there using the disc that came with the computer. The comps a good 6 years old and therefore so is the version of xp. As a result he's getting loads of compatiblity problems and is very restricted in what he can do on it. I looked in system and he's running simply "Windows xp home edition" theres no mention of sp1/2/3 at all. I figured he had to update so I tried windows update to do it automatically but its not working (just won't download stuff on there, errors out).

Is there a patch/file I can download that'll update his version of XP? I figure theres gotta be something out there.

Any help would be massively appreciated.

i'd just grab an sp2 or sp3 windows xp off thepiratebay.org and install that....

yea i agree.
Ive done that many times before and it works like a charm.
Make sure you have a blank disc so you can burn it on there and then run the disc.
Just did it a few days ago to get the new windows 7 beta.

Meh, the pirate bay has some bad copies of xp on there...

Go here and download Service Pack 3 and then install, it'll be safer and keep him legit (if he already was).

would need to format again. if u do go the piratebay route just remember to go for torrents that have a high number of seeders/leechers, that usually is the sign of a good torrent

yep this is the best info coz most of the windoze on torrents are full of trojans and keyloggers, keep safe

My dad downloaded that file but when hge tried to install it it said "You need to have SP1 or higher installed to install this update. Does anybody know where I might find the patch required upgrade him to SP1? I guess once he's got that he can run the patch you recomended. Didn't realise it'd be this much trouble
