I have just read something interesting on Wikipedia about PageRank:

False or spoofed PageRank

While the PageRank shown in the Toolbar is considered to be derived from an accurate PageRank value (at some time prior to the time of publication by Google) for most sites, it must be noted that this value is also easily manipulated. A current flaw is that any low PageRank page that is redirected, via a 302 server header or a "Refresh" meta tag, to a high PageRank page causes the lower PageRank page to acquire the PageRank of the destination page. In theory a new, PR0 page with no incoming links can be redirected to the Google home page - which is a PR 10 - and by the next PageRank update the PR of the new page will be upgraded to a PR10. This spoofing technique, also known as 302 Google Jacking, is a known failing or bug in the system. Any page's PageRank can be spoofed to a higher or lower number of the webmaster's choice and only Google has access to the real PageRank of the page. Spoofing is generally detected by running a Google search for a URL with questionable PageRank, as the results will display the URL of an entirely different site (the one redirected to) in its results.

And I was wondering how easy would it be to actually do the above and spoof your websites PageRank? It could be quite useful. :)

this happened to me recently, had just purchased a domain that i would use later so i redirected it to a PR3 domain i had thru cpanel ... weeks later it had the PR of the target site, and the weird thing is when i checked the backlinks of the new domain, GG was showing the backlinks of the original PR3 site.

guess it would be useful if your flipping a new site?

yes you can do it, however I think it's pretty sh*tty thing to do. But people can use tools to verify you are doing it.

I suppose if someone was so stupid that they didn't use one of the many PR verifiers out there before they bought your site it might work. I think it's a dumb idea because when some does find out its fake you'll lose all credibility.

You can raise your page rank just from getting a lot of traffic. I have a domain that only gets about 10k visitors a month of junk traffic and its a PR 3.

yes, you can. I don't recommend it, but you can do it! Here is a tutorial:

that is not true. Page rank is unaffected by traffic. You are thinking of alexa

If you have an unindexed website on Google (which most probably was banned sometime ago), and you forward a PR website to that website.. will that website be included and have a PR?

Yeah.. Google is crawling my site.. but it's not getting indexed :(
