Hello folks ... all those who have had bad experience with Hostwinds and switched, where did you switch to?

I see BHW is hosted at Hostwinds.com, and I thought Hostwind would be the perfect place for forum hosting. But I see lots and lots of complaints.

So where did you guys switch to so that I can check those hosts out too.

Thanks

We have our up's and down's just like any company, however I think if you ask around, you will find tons and tons of happy clients. We have just completed our core network switching upgrades which should increase overall network throughput significantly

Yes, but Hostwind's 'ups and downs' are a bit more literal than those of other companies.

I checked my Pingdom report today. Do you know how many times my sites, hosted on the Business Unlimited plan, have been down in the last week?

23 times.

23 times in 7 days. That averages at over 3 times a day. The longest downtime was 3 hours and 39 minutes. My rankings plummeted during that time and still haven't recovered.

You know what that makes me, according to several other Hostwinds clients I've spoken to? Lucky. Hey, my sites are always down, but at least they weren't permanently lost. Thank you Hostwinds!

I hope so. Not that I'll be renewing my subscription regardless of the outcome.

Had an issue and solved it within 2 minutes. Live support is great.

PM or Skype me a link to these uptime reports, if that is indeed the case, which I doubt, then you will be fully refunded, and we can get you out of your year term early

We had about 1 hour of downtime yesterday during the core router upgrades

I just started doing business with HostWinds after a MAJOR issue with my smtp accounts and HostWinds really saved me here. I'll gladly vouch for them as a legit/reliable company. So far the setup time was really quick and any minor issues I have had have been addressed and solved nearly immediately anytime of day or night.

I had just referred a friend to Hostwinds the other day and he referenced me back to this thread telling me I was on crack.... So I came in to check this shit out.

Im not sure what all the fuss is about - but Ive never had a host be so responsive and willing to help me as a customer. I've got some pretty whack shit going on with my mini-network and other complex things - that Peter and his team have really saved my ass. Some examples.

I was previously hosting 4500 blogs on about 120 domains [using subdomains ] and wpmu over at some purported elite seo-hosting service provider. They were banging my wallet for well over $650 a mth for this killer service. Then they had the audacity to come at me for a bigger dedi box because the wp sites were getting ass-raped by hrefer and scrapebox trying to post viagra spam. The databases were getting hammered and shutting down the sql server and all sorts of bad stuff. After spending a couple thousand experimenting with stuff with my old "elite hosting" co to try and LEARN wtf they were doing - everything kept heading south and we never fixed the problem. They blamed me for having too much traffic to handle the load and left me to die.

... Enter Peter Holden @ Hostwinds.

Within 7 days he had a workable solution - diagnosed wtf the real issue was and migrated ALL of my sites to a new dedicated server and put in protections and systems to handle the issues caused by people trying to blog comment spam the sites. We've been rock solid there for near a year now. Not only was he the ONLY host of 7 I talked to that was willing to take the challenge head on - he was the only one who could fix the issue and make shit work. For that I will be forever thankful. Thats where Hostwinds excels - the hard stuff.

The next challenge I had was - I needed someone to host a customized server based app that required the use of proxies. This meant the app needed access to ports that werent normally OPEN on non-dedicated server arrangement. Peter managed a way to create a semi-dedicated vps solution that had all the open ports I needed - so I could rock proxies and post to my 50k web 2.0 blog network. I talked to all the other usual suspects in web hosting - everyone else got their panties in a knot. Peter didnt flinch and had a solution ironed out that was very competitive in a single day. Service has been ROCK SOLID since day 1. Very pleased. This solution has made me a fair amount of $$$.

Next thing needed was a hosting solution for my Backlink Energizer clients who need to use proxies. Again most hosting co's cant or wont come up with an affordable solution for this. Peter analyzed all the system resources a massive amount of backlink energizer installs used - determined a comprehensive and affordable vps solutiuon for my SEO clients and Energizer customers and now we get to make more posts on more web 2 platforms - all day every day - because he makes it happen. Saves us $$$ - time - headaches and gets shit done. Kudos 2 Hostwinds.

Hostwinds doesnt just host my shit and give me ease of use for a few affiliate blog sites. They create real business class solutions that make me BANK - every day - where other hosts Can't or Won't.

Which of your hosting plans would be best if I want to have:

A. 10,000 unique visitors per month to a simple sales page with one picture and a bit of text that uses little bandwidth.
B. 50,000 unique visitors a month to such a site.
C. 100,000 unique visitors a month to such a site.
D. 400,000 unique visitors?

Please tell me which hosting plans, dedicated server vs. VPS vs. shared hosting for each of those abcd options cheers!

Any good recurring coupons for hostwinds VPS?

I am a wee bit pissed off. I decided to try hostwinds and have been happy up until now.

I am with 7 other hosting companies currently (not a complete noob when it comes to hosting)

My sites have been hacked 5 times since I started hosting with them. Before this last round I had WP Firewall and still got hacked. The hacker also spammed 25k emails from my account and now I am suspended. I contact support, and they want me to wait until morning and call them. Why? Why can't this get sorted out now?

I don't know the 1st thing about email spam. I explained that to support, but they are still going to make me wait until tomorrow. Why can't they call me right now?

Am I crazy? Is this normal? Has anyone else had problems with their sites getting hacked on Hostwinds?

just ordered 1 years premium business hosting we will see what the quality is like. hopefully the support is better than hostgator!

I had this problems time ago but the contact support solve it in 5 minutes
and from the last problem when many people lose their database (where I include myself but only for small sites) I don't have any problem and at the moment is really fast so I will continue using them

So are people still facing the downtime issues? I need hosting, and HostWinds seems the cheapest, so should I buy it?

support what support?

Everyone keeps ranting and raving about host winds being great. I tried to get hold of their support because the softaculous software had expired and wondered if they were going reactivate it.

left a query with their messaging system, no response
24 hours later i phoned, I checked to see if their technical support was online using their messaging system. no responce.
I then decided to call them, phone wasn't answered.
Its been around the 48 hour mark and still no response I'm getting a bit ticked off now. looks like im going to have to install word press manually

Their softaculous is expired? as in not working?
Let us know how this turns out.

I am looking for hosting now.

That email comes from softaculous every month. It has nothing to do with hw. Unless you don't pay hw that is. There was a rough bit with them for a while but I have been happy recently. Way happier than with anyone else I host with. Peter may be getting more business soon if he can keep this up.

Well, I talked to Peter this morning on Skype and on the phone.
Seems like a good guy and cares about customer service. (Can't say that about HostGator :o)

Going to use him for a site or 2 and if all goes well, add more and grow from there.

Do you have Ioncube loadres on your hosting??

Yes the latest version of ioncube is installed by default on all shared hosting, and VPS hosting plans
