So my site got hit on May 8th and I went from about 50 hits a day to 2 90% of my hits were organic. This is a site where I sell some products, but it really wasn't driving too much sales they were all coming in from Amazon directly, so I just forgot about it pretty much. I had an intern do some random linking in a non SEO way as suggested by somebody on this forum. I made some minor changes to some content on the homepage which was a bit too keyword rich and also I deleted a plugin and all posts created by a plugin that I purchased here installed called Keyword explosion which pretty much created posts to using long tail keywords and redirected to my homepage. Today I randomly go onto my analytics just for the hell of it and see this:
I am back on the first page for one of the main keywords I was targeting, but no other words have really recovered. I spent about $350 on services for that main KW right before my site went down and was up to the 8th position and now I am back to #8.
So In my case I think that it might have been because of either the plugin that posted poor content or not enough anchor diversity, which I doubt because when looking under webmaster tools I have like 1000 different anchors linking to my site. The intern only built about 150 links additionally after my site went down.
I hope others in my position will also see positive movement soon!
