Are there bargains on flippa ?

big question ! I'm not looking to spend big, I have no interest in 2 week old sites, and I don't even bother to read the financials because I don't believe them. However I do see 3-5 year old sites that look like fixer uppers selling for under $200. I'm thinking again I build a site from scratch I might as well buy one of these particularly if is in a sector I already have sites in.....am I wrong or are there a few rough diamonds there to be picked up ??

People who know Flippa, know internet marketing... this equates to shrewd sellers...this equates to inflated prices. Flippa is definitely is not a place to get bargains. On occasion you can get a good deal but this is rare.

Where are other good places to pick up good bargains then. Is it possible to get bargains when buying sites anymore? I've bought from Flippa, i think a lot of the prices are inflated.

If you're looking for a nice site to own and upkeep, you want one with earnings, whether it's $5 or $10. Be careful though, even a slight amount in earnings means there will be a bidding war. You've been warned.

I got some deals on DP a year or so ago. IMO flippa is more looked at and smaller forums (or sub sections of bigger forums where only a few members regularly look at that section) where there may be less competition and many sites don't even sell that's where you get a bargain.

I've only ever had one bargain there. I picked up a working site and 20 domains in the same niche for about $200. It was the basis of my blog network.

I can see that the site is shark infested waters and most people who are selling there are professional website flippers. But I have seen what appears to be neglected sites that have never been optimised.....I think I'm going to buy one and get back to this thread with results. Thanks to everyone for suggestions on where else to look

I did a google search on "DP" not what I was expecting !!!!!!. Anyway have found 3-4 more sites on digital point that I like the look of.. Basically shit sites but aged and in my niche so will spend the night playing around there

Very, very occasionally you'll find a bargain on Flippa.

I've purchased an Amazon site on there that was selling enough to push the payout up a level or two so I considered it a bargain but generally when I have browsed on there the mid-range sites and low-end sites are being sold for hugely inflated prices and are only worth something to naive buyers.

Yes, this is a sweeping generalization but is just my opinion.

I've had good luck and bad luck on Flippa. I've been ripped off by people who managed to fake stats, but I also got a couple gems.
One site I bought for $150 has made me over $1000 in adsense income in the past 5 months.

Most of the cheap sites won't be able to get your money back - at least not in the short-medium term, so I would pass on that.

So I've found a few more sites that look like they could be worth a punt. One in particular is a bit outside my $200 max limit but looks like it has long term potential so I am interested.... One thing I have noticed on the Digital Point forums is sellers getting called out for manipulating page rank.... I must be a bit naive but I thought Page rank was hard to manipulate ?? Anyway I am not a complete dope and I dont expect to pick up a high page rank site for a few dollars but If a site is PR-3-5 It would encourage me to give the extra few quid....Anyone got any experience with this issue

I've also been interested in finding some alternatives to Flippa. My business partner and I have bought some "Fixer-uppers" on there, but I'm not sure I see anything that is necessarily profitable. It is definitely a great starting point though.

This week on Flippa I've discovered that the reserve is usually about 10% of the B.I.N price.... I've also found that (the sites I've bid on) dont sell at the auction and usually there is a negotiation after the listing... I am currently having a haggle on 3 sites.. The one I would like is completely neglected but looks great and does have potential with a lot of work, unfortunately the guy seems to think the script is worth a lot of money so I will struggle to deal with him at the moment, but will keep trying to wear him down even if it takes a few weeks. I think I am going to buy a travel related site..Its not bad looking and has limited potential...It wouldnt be my first choice but it is well aged which I like and I am in the mood of buying something just for the experience so I will update on that if I buy it... Have found stuff on digital point that I like but the two sellers I exchanged emails with werent exactly full of straight answers so think I will stick with flippa until I have more time to look at d.p.

I actually have a site that gets 3500 monthly organic, and I was thinking of selling it because I've not had much luck monetizing it.

I imagine there could be a few people in a similar situation, and for someone with a knack for converting visitors, there must be bargains to be had.

As you point out, traffic doesn't add to the price much. I guess it's a matter of finding the sites with genuine organic traffic stats.
