Google local ONE box. How to break up?

I think I have asked this before and got no answer. Google has slowly been cutting back the number of local results for my business in my town. From 7 to 5 to 3 and now to only 1 result for all but one little used keyword. Ive been at number 2 spot for a long time. Now google thinks only this one company is relative enough to show in the local results. So I am buying A LOT of adwords to stay at the top.
What can be done to open the local results back up to more companies? Get 10 fake addresses and temp phone numbers and make more local listings for them?? Just thought of that... Maybe its worth a try.

There will be other listings but google thinks the business in the one box is most relevant(go to maps you'll see ht eother listings).It can reversed ,I have taken a one box which was a clients competitor,got it back to a 3 so my client showed then gave my client a one box.It depends if the current one box is being actively seo'd.
Adding another 10 listings will not help,it'll probably make it worse.
Have a look where the top listing is getting their links and get as many on the same sites as poss and get more links on other similar sites and local business directories.

are you using adwords? you need MORE QUALITY score to get it.

Thanks, I will keep at it then. They have about about 100 more citations then me according to most tools, but when I go to most of them, they are sites that dont link to any other site except through adsence and have nothing to do with business listings. Backlinks are all screwed up because most of the sites Google says link to it, just dont. Only a few that I have found actually link to them, the majority of which are footer links from sites that the guy who made their site added for them.

Only thing I suggest is make your site more relevant. Make sure your customers use the keywords in the reviews (this helps a lot). Keep building quality citations. Very possible to break open a one box
