Wasn't jammie trying to buy a bunch of PS3's a couple of days ago?
 
my idea would have made me alot more respected in more circles than this :p

But still, its the same reason i wanted PS3's.

200 PS3's = 28 teraflops peak performance. Thats more than alot of supercomputers, but a tiny fraction of the cost.

It'd be about 109,375 times faster than the computer you're working at, so you could do *over* 12 years of folding in one hour on it. Leave it on for one month and you've done the equvilent of 551,250,000 hours of folding. Thats over 63 millenia.

I'm sure i could find a use for that to be quite honest.

The research isn't practical, although i'm sure the government will love it (as they have many many more powerful computers, but they will have been doing it for years to be frank). But it just goes to show why it's worth learning HPI/CUDA ;)

I do my research into it and get to play with supercomputers (well, small clusters but never the full machine ... yet!)
