Thank you for explaining more the different between PR and SERP. This is very helpful advice and I will return to this when I need this info.
What does SERP stand for?
I've read a lot of things too. lol. If what you were saying was true then it wouldn't be nearly so common to find lower PR sites beating out high PR site in the SERPs.
How the algorithms calculate the PR has changed over the years but it's still based on backlinks. The SERP on the other hand has undergone many changes and is based on a lot more factors than it used to be. It sounds like you may be confusing PR with things you've read about Trust Rank. Trust Rank is based on a lot of other factors besides just backlinks. But Page Rank and Trust Rank are two different things. This thread is just explaining when and how PR (specifically) affects the SERPs.
The point is that the importance is in the backlinks. Get as many and as high PR backlinks as you can targeted for your keywords and you'll help both your sites PR and more importantly it's SERP position.
PR and SERP ranking are related, but only in that they are both affected by the same factor.
PR does indicate it's importance (if you gauge importance by how many places are linking to a page), but it doesn't necessarily indicate trust. You're confusing Page Rank with Trust Rank. Those are two separate things.
