New Panda Refresh Today!?! My rankings have returned

This one totally baffles me. A few rankings up, a few rankings down - my most important site kept almost all of its #1s (one kw dropped to #2) ------ but my traffic and sales are virtually gone. The rankings are the same, but the results are cataclysmic. I can't figure it out yet.

Oops...quoted the wrong comment...

Maybe memorial day weekend, everyone is at the beach!

Has anyone seen any negative results from the refresh? I had actually regained all my first page rankings with minimal link building. (I was trying not to do too much to see what would happen). Now today I've dropped back down to page 5+ for all my keywords.

so you got hit by penguin on April 24th and then slowly recovered your rankings over the past month, only to lose them over the past 24 hours?

Maybe, but this drop looks far beyond a holiday slowdown.

Correct. The only thing I did was build links to diversify my anchor text, and worked on my on-page SEO. My site recovered nicely, although my main keyword never really recovered. My long tail keywords all jumped back up to page 1. Now today they've all taken a dive again.

Congratz, hopefully it will stick!!

I saw a slight push downward about 1 day ago....

Manny since we have talked quite a bit before and after penguin, I would like to congratulate you on your hard work. I hope that this is not a flash in the pan and something more stable.

CONGRATS!

1. I have been building an authority site and currently it has a little over 1,000 indexed pages, prior to penguin I did not interlink any of these pages. I had been studying what characteristics an authority site had and one of the biggest characteristics is that an authority site has super strong interlinking between most/if not all pages on the site. My template for this was looking at wikipedia and noticing the super heavy interlinking between all of its pages. Pull up any page in wikipedia and you will notice the heavy interlinking. For full disclosure, I have only completed the interlinking on about half the pages as I am doing this by hand. There are some wordpress plugins that automate this and I used one briefly, but it didn't do as much interlinking as I wanted or could be doing so I uninstalled the plugin and proceeded to start this by hand. Also, I started to heavily add outbound links to other authority sites in my niche, I even linked to my competitors, I gave the google bot some link love.
.

There could be something on this one.
I also improved a lot a interlinking on one of my sites that has 300 plus articles, plus also I improved navigation a lot. (Every single page is reachable within 2 clicks from any other page on the web).

This site has recovered most of it's rankings, 90% plus, in fact all the words except the most difficult one, that were heavily linked using ALN and other blog networks - thought they got positive uprise also!

Currently, I did the same few days ago on another of my websites (but this is quite small one ,has just little more than 100 pages), so let's see what it does... Anyway, it's interesting that you did the same and it worked for both of us!

Nice one Manny - your site seems to have had a similar path to mine - ranking well pre Feb, then unnatural links penalty and other stuff. Hope mine comes back too.

Yeah I just checked out Matt Cutts's Twitter and Google's Inside Search official blog. He has confirmed there has been a Peguin algo data refresh he says it will effect <1% of English Searches. Just wonder how many searches that means exactly? Like millions or billions?

thats only prediction i think
because my country Searches had been effect to

I'm surprised SEOers keep pretending they understand this update... there's a heck of a lot of BS being spouted right now from a lot of "gurus" and a lot of it is clearly not correct. This is a much, much bigger paradigm shift than Panda in 2011, and the SEO community is mostly silent.

Damn True!

ps:
my site going back from #46 to #10 today (what ive done? just google + and retweet)

Just to clarify, so you were hit by penguin too on april 24th?

Yeah, I really think there is something to an authority site and the interlinking between the pages. I mention wikipedia in my original post, but if you look at searchengineland.com, you will see in every post there are a ton of links linking to other pages and at the bottom of every post there is a list of links to other relevant posts...

And, all these links count as links to those other pages on your site...In Wikipedia's case, they probably link more to their own pages then anyone else does...To me, this seems like the ultimate black hat technique, but I guess its not, so here we go!

Also, I think the outbound links could have played a role, but only link to high authority sites...this helps you associated yourself with other authority sites...

When you mention Google+, are you talking about posting links in your Google+ account to your website or buying plus ones on fiverr, or?

1 site from page 1 to page 7 :(
1 site from page 2 to page 1 :D

setup blog with google + google business pages
post yout blog post to g+business comment and give + more comment are better

i pretend my site as a brand and my tips dont after the kw that you had ranking before

In my niches nothing has changed. Really weird. I've checked the hyper competitive ones (weight loss, insurance etc) and you can see there has been some changes again.
This volatility has produced a new playing field for those that can wrap their head around it, and the answers as always are in the serps. I see huge upside for churn and burn.

When you are trying to build a business and you rely so much on goolge (and I mean me), it is really hard to plan for the future as google has really made their SERPs super volatile...

Manny, I am soooooo happy for you! Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!! I'm back in the serps too, as I said in the other thread.

Don't hold your breath they stay.
There was a refresh on the 24th in the middle of the day, and yet another last night (100% sure there was one)
The data isn't lying. 15 of the sites I track (none are mine) that weren't hit during penguin 1.0 are now gone... and a lot of the spam sites (301 redirects, Xrumer blasts etc) that ran up in the last month disappeared entirely.

My site that was hit went up a few spots again... nothing major.
Penguin is clearly a negative algorithm/punishment update and is going to be refreshed.
The search results are all over the place on almost every term worth SEOing.

Finally a post with some sense about this update.

Many of my sites that weren't hit in the first update have been slapped in this new one. I agree that Penguin is a lot bigger than Panda and it is a negative / punitive update.

I will know the impact on my earnings tomorrow but it's not going to be good. Some of my sites have lost 80% of their traffic.

A newer site that I did SEO for with a slightly adjusted strategy went from page 3 to #2. It's promising but it's only one site, so it's not enough data for a conclusion to be made. Like everyone I do not understand the sense of this update and anyone who says they do is bullshitting.

My rankings have all mostly gone up today, yesterday some hade droped 1-2
positions but today they have recoverd and now some are on 1 place.

What I see when manualy checking mi rankings is that the number of
search results changes a lot during/after a update, for example for one of mi keywords it
changed yesterday from 98.000 then a few hours later 149.000 and today its back to the
normal 128.000
Has onyone else noticed these kind of changes in search results?

I just check all of my keywords ranking are gone. My website is 2 years old and it was fine when Google did it panda and penguin update. I also checked my webmaster account no message and all of my website pages are still in search engine..

Did this happen to anybody..
what can i do..?

Mine were gone too. Then they appeared but not good. Now they keep going higher.
