Second Penguin Update (Refresh)

I had some very positive changes to my rankings for a keyword I did not directly optimize for, this actually happened yesterday.

Not the actual keyword:

My site targets "Best Wholesales Lists" with an EMD, I did mostly optimize for that keyword but yesterday my site shot up out of nowhere for "Wholesale List" and "Wholesales List", placing me in the top 3 rankings for both keywords.
The reason i'm confused is because of all my backlinks (around 4000 live BL's) only about 5-10% directly target these keywords, they are nowhere in my first tier properties. Previously the first page had an EMD MNS ranking on the first position and some authority pages which all dissapeared. I jumped from the second and third page all the way to the top rankings.

Traffic Travis says Medium Difficutly (top 10) on both keywords.

my german site ranked before the 1st penguin on site 9, after penguin on site 1 and now it's gone... i did get a fiverr for wiki links few days ago.

Holy f*** a lot of my sites have been slapped royally. Almost as bad as the original update. So quite strange that only 0.1% of results are affected, it seems more significant than that for me.

Need some time to fully assess the damage.

Did these rankings actually show in a ranking tool you use or when you searched for that keyword by hand?!

Cuz i thought the same last week but it turned out that google wuz only showing me in position 3 on page 1 for a mega keyword because i "recently searched for ******* ***** for sale"

I noticed the changes because I got 400 visitors overnight within perhaps 15 hours while I normally only get 80 visitors to that site in a day. When I checked stattpress I saw all visitors came from those both new keywords.
And I usually check it by hand on a US VPS that I only use for SEO. You can also check absolute rankings by using Incognito mode in Chrome and going to google(dot)com/ncr​

My big sites that suffered a little (a couple of spots) 4 weeks ago are both back at number 1 for their main keywords.

All my micro sites from 2009 or earlier that had a brief resurgence with the first update have all gone (50+ sites for 2-3 keywords each - all gone from top 1000)

All my sites with 100,000 unique words and a sensible number of hi PR links are back and ranking better than ever
All my shit has gone

Very happy with this update. Traffic levels already on a sharp increase on may sites, revenue already beaten last Saturdays by midday today.
Seems to make a lot more sense than the first one.

Looking forward to spending this Autumn taking 3 months off travelling in India staying in 5* hotels, watching the cricket and hiring new SEO assistants.

After checking statpress again and doing some further analysis I realized that i'm ranking for much more than just those 2 new keywords.
My site also went up for other variatons of the keyword. Instead of just ranking highly for Best Wholesale Lists I also am hitting the first page of Best Wholesales and the second page for Best Wholesale

Over the board a local search value of 60k local visitors monthly (double the amount globally) while I initially only targetted 2500 with this site. Its a niche review site but with about 15x 700 to 1000 word unique articles
