I think if you know what you're doing, all these google updates are just that... updates. They don't really affect you in the long term.

I didn't have any sites that were hit permanently







I make new sites regularly, here are a couple from the past few weeks







Just keep on plugging away man, keep on testing and experimenting. Ranking in not a race but a marathon.

If you want to recover from Penguin, just look at the things that Google is taking in consideration for the SERPS and look at the things you were doing. Get rid of nasty backlinks that are placed on websites that are fully spammed etc. I've always warned everyone for the use of Scrapebox and Xrumer, it may sound all great in the beginning, but Google is getting smarter every minute. These tools should only be used by pro's that know what they are doing, Xrumer does require a lot of knowledge. It certainly isn't as easy as scraping keywords/links and spam the shit out of them.

I personally never got affected penguins. Knock oon wood.

I have heard of lots of others that saw improvement but never fully recovered. In
others words if you got hit, you will never recover but some
will argue that it's to early to make conclusions.

It is way to early for many to have fully have recovered from penguin (in most cases). What you have to remember is Penguin was a valuation update, not a blanket penalty - so not every site was effected as badly or in the same way.

I've always done very detailed SEO in order to keep it seeming organic and avoid most penalties, so after the Penguin update I was able to scoop up a number of local clients from other SEO Firms that didn't share this practice.

Currently a number of these client sites are rapidly on the mend, a few are already floating around the rankings they once held where as others will take a few months to get there. It's important to remember that you often have to place a large amount of lost link juice without seeming unnatural or breaking your diversity.

If your site is for adsense or cpa you would be better starting a new website and hoping on board with a white hat seo service, if on the other hand your website is a corporate one that you can not abandon it's time to start fighting back against the penguin. Invest in diversity, context and high quality manual linking. Do NOT use private blog networks and avoid using automation tools unless you really know what you are doing. If you were hit hard it could be as long as 3 - 4 months before you see full or even partial recovery.
