I downloaded a torrent with possible underage actors..

I recently started back to working on my adult site and needed some pictures. I found a torrent which was clearly marked as what I wanted...ADULTS material, well actually it wasn't marked adults, but definitely wasn't marked as anything related to young people.

About 60% through the download it stopped as the 1 seeder maybe stopped it, not sure, but when I opened it wasn't really what I wanted. It was mixed pics and some of them looked pretty young as in teens but I don't know for sure as my niche is actually older. They weren't pre-pubecent but for sure too young for my niche and I got a bit paranoid and realized whoever was seeding knew my IP and was seeding illegal pics. For all I know it was the law...

I shut it down, deleted the folder and emptied the recycle bin.

Technically I was in possesion of (maybe) illegal porn. Not intentionally, it sure wasn't marked/named as anything like that.

I ask in a BH forum because it was a torrent and I trust the members might have some experience but it just bugs the shit out of me that the law could trick me into downloading something like that know my IP, and bust my door in and I would have hard time proving my innocence, and probably go broke defending myself.

Yea...I know thats a worst case scenario, but most of my dealings with the law in the past were worst case scenarios.

What would you do? and is there is any way to hide IP's using UTorrent?

I would back up that drive of all the documents you need, remove it and get rid of it. Reinstall on a new hard drive. For anonymity I'd use a vpn service of sorts.

If you downloaded a file called porn, then what is in it has nothing to do with you and it is not illegal. If it said it was kiddy porn and you knew what you was downloading then that would be a different matter. I would not worry myself about it if I were you.

Just FYI, you still have those files on your hard-drive if you just emptied the recycle-bin. You might want to use a program like recuva to permanently delete them, if you're so worried.

i wouldnt worry too much about it if i was you, even in the scenario that the police did come to your door and seize your pc, if they only found them files that you say could be under-age pornography and they are just named "porn" then you would basically be fine. if they found you had thousands of photos and videos which all look like under-age pornography then you would be in some trouble. When you download a Torrent with adult material inside i think its something like 75% of the time there will be some material (maybe just 1 photo) that could be under-age pornography, so chances are you have already downloaded under-age pornography before without even knowing it.

ya I'd admit to the mistake - be up front about it. Send the e-mail as zx123 suggests.

Or, save the important stuff - take out your hard drive - burn it. Only way to be 100% safe. Deleting dosn't do anything. Neither does a deep wipe. If its been on the drive at one point. they can find it.

I tend to think it is fine. I also tend to think if someone decided to make an example of me or anyone else they could and they could destroy someones life. Its happened many times.

Here's what you really need to do, but no one will tell you. Remove it from you computer and take it discretely to the nearest zoo or amusement park with a polar bear. Remember, bears eat beets, but since it's almost the summer you may have caught a huge break. Polar bears only eat hard drives they know have child porn on them in the summer time, so you should be in good shape. Don't ask me how they know, but they use their "bear sense" to sniff out the pornos before deciding to go ape shit on it. Never, I repeat, NEVER look the bear in the eyes. Use cleanup, set for highest scan, (save your passwords and such) and clean with it, It will essentially pull all the personal information out and delete it, including junk files, temp internet files, log files and backup files. It will also reset game scores and remove personal information to prepare the computer for resale.

Next get eraser, and erase your hard drive using a military (DOD) spec wipe. Be sure to wipe the cluster tips. Use both of these programs regularly and you cannot be accused of evidence tampering, you can claim good computer maintenance habits.

I would also clean out the registry (sorry no free tool to recommend), then get a live Unbuntu CD. Boot up on the live CD and go into your hard drive and delete everything under the "Recyclers and "System Volume Information" folders. This will not hurt windows, but it will remove your restore points, so be aware of that.

Run eraser after you have done these deletes, so that space is wiped too.

All of this means nothing, ISP server logs will incriminate you if the authorities get a hard on for you.

By the way, never call anyone and tell them you think you broke the law. Tell your lawyer. Seriously.

While they have busted people for accidentally downloading child porn labeled as normal adult porn, it's extremely rare. The odds are astronomical. They're usually just trying to make an example of someone. Just delete it and scrub your hard drive if you're worried about it.

The FBI estimates that they catch about 1 in 60,000 people who look at child porn.
