Expired domain. Can i use the old content?

HI all,

I have a domain which was expired and the old website has got like a lot of articles/posts. Is it possible for me to just go into Google cache and archives and copy the articles and re-use them on the same domain website?

The theme and everything is different. But if I give it the same URL would that be a smart thing to do? It is still unique content I guess when I make the url the same right?

So question. The time putting into getting these articles back, is it worth it? They are still indexed, but to be clear about this, they are from the domain which is now mine

Yes, I think you can use the old content, especially if it stayed indexed.

I think, it is a good idea to use the old content, if your domain has a high pr, I guess using those old content will help to retain the pagerank of the domain.

I bought an expired domain. When I look at archive.org and Google Cache I can retrieve old content from the website and site:domain still shows 26.600 indexed pages in Google. When I look up the most popular pages, can I just get the old content/articles and recreate them on my site?

Wondering the same thing. I'm playing around with this currently and trying to see if Google will hit this expired domain with a spam complaint and if there are any copyright issues.

While a lot of people do this, It's neither legal nor illegal. It depends on how you do it and if previous owners care. As long as you don't infringe on legal rights and are willing to accept take down requests for said content you may come out with free content. I doubt you will be sued over plagiatarism without warning.

This is pretty much the only thing you have to lookout for.

Same content with same domain is okay right off the bat, same content with different domain is okay when the content drops from Google cache (depending on the amount of content will take 1-3 months). Done the latter myself twice, no issues.

It's illegal to use someone else's content. They still own the rights to it even if they let their domain expire. I would just get some content written for the URLs that have good links pointing to them, or just 301 all of the old URLs to the homepage.

Go to the wayback machine archive.org/web. You should be able to retrieve your old content easier. But then you should wait until google de-indexes the previous site.

It is illegal, but usually you have no problems with it. At worst previous content owner will contact you or your registry and you will remove the content.
