Your site looks cheap, not very appealing. Heck, even my dating offers landing pages look 10 times better than that . Seriously though, 20 dollar competition here, lmao!
Especially on a site that looks like that, and you want real followers. For someone to put that much effort for 20 bucks on a website that need some real work and has almost next to nothing value, is going to be hard. I can see that you want to get this off the ground , but your take on approaching this is not really even remotely there yet. Sorry for the harsh comment, but am being realistic here . Your site needs major improvement, and the whole competition for 20 bucks won't really bring you any interesting people aboard.

Hey, thanx for the replies, I appriciate the honest feedback. the main things I hate is the banner which I will be changing. Do you have any suggestions other than that?

The landing page for a social network (casual) is a bunch of text when most people that doesn't use their computer for anything but social networks is very visual (look at facebooks landing page)
The banner like you said.
The commenting system looks way to wordpress-y (new word?) for me. Tweak it, Tweak it a lot.

well really its a competition, but the ultimate goal is to expand. once bigger the prize for 2nd comp would be much bigger, that was the goal anyways

Make it more visually appealing. If it's like a social network, show peoples faces. Open a depositphotos account and get the 7day free trail. You get to download 5 pics a day. Get some nice ones... groups of people, party pictures, images of good looking woman never fail to work. Instead of giving away $20, go to fiverr and order 4 $5 dlls gigs... Logo, Banner, Ad design for posting on other social networks and a design for an email invitation.

All of this will get you more people in the door than the competition, and it will make those people actually want to invite their friends.

So you want to make a social networking site based in AU? Okay, plausible. You should really invest in an attractive site design (as in have a professional do it for you). You should really set aside a budget for marketing as well. Not coming to BHW and asking users to promote your site for $20 bucks.
